How Can Situations Like The Colorado Theatre Shooting Be Prevented?

Written on Saturday, July 21, 2012 by Dennis Marcellino

Why didn’t these things happen in the 1950’s? Why didn’t we need airport screenings then? Why didn’t people need to lock their house or car doors then? The answer is simple. There was more order then (especially in families) … which then naturally released more love and peace and security. I lived through it so I know that to be true personally. But a person can verify what I’m saying by listening to the music back then and watching the TV shows and movies. There was a different feeling in the air … even in the most impoverished communities. There was a patriotism in a country that we could be proud of and be united behind. Can we really be proud of today’s music and morals?

Here’s what it boils down to. There is a greater tolerance for “sin” now. And the natural, inbred reaction to sin is anger … to “correct” it and to implement “justice.” But political correctness has not only forced people to swallow that sin, but they even are arrested or sued for trying to speak out against it. But then at some point it explodes … in situations like these and domestic violence, even to the point where adults murder their families. We’re seeing it more and more in the news, whereas I never saw it in the news when I was growing up. The immorality of today’s society has made it very difficult to create and maintain a good marriage and family. And the feelings tied to marriage and family are VERY powerful … and therefore the anger to correct also is great.

The pressures of today are much greater. And pressure has to be released. But the love in a family helped people in the past. That’s why there weren’t a lot of gang murders, even in the black communities, where women were respected and people dressed nice and worked hard. But more than anything, God and His laws were respected above all else. But now we have rampant pornography and out of wedlock births. And those things tear at the family and cause the greatest pressure … in a person’s heart. So then a person either turns to violence or addictions to try to bring their internal experience to a good and not bad state. And poverty isn’t an excuse, because people were still generally civil even in the great depression. And in the Bible Paul says that he has learned to be content whether in poverty or riches. As a person who is devoted to God, I know that to also be true personally. I’m content in all situations JUST because I’m tied to and understand God.

The solution is this: a happy heart doesn’t do violence. And the way to have a happy heart is to love and obey God and just be tied to people who do the same. It’s that simple. But the mainstream institutions constantly work to keep God out of the media and schools. So then kids are pressured to go along with the mainstream.

So what can we do? Don’t vote for a democrat. That party is the party that promotes more and more tolerance to sin. And educate yourself and others to the realities that I’ve stated here.

You don't understand the way posts work, do you? Especially when you propagate an intentional video or picture with many folks that KNOW you understand how to post?! I don't see any of that CRAP. I ONLY see ASCII text.

Women should be involved, too. Absolutely. I had a dear friend who was more of a father to her two sons than their own father was. The boys got to where they wouldn't even bother to ask their Dad about anything because they never kinew how he'd respond. Those boys talked to Diane about everything, and I mean everything.

It takes caring.

And I think you would have to agree that trying to stop the spread of VD is a genuine public interest.

I didn't say anything about VD. I prefer that it be taught at home, too. And again, for the same reason.

We'll never have a perfect world, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying and 'just let gubmint do it'.

I, for one, Pete, don't want any teachers leading prayer in school. They've screwed up the subjects they supposedly trained to teach. I cannot believe they would somehow do a fantastic job on something they seemingly know so little about. JMO.

There is a lot more involved in this centrist idea that both the ONE and ONLY Republican/Democratic Party wants to admit.

They have categorically: removed the idea of individual liberty concerning formal educational efforts about the once worthwhile nation other than direct control from a statist, centrist government.

It means the philosophy for the humanistic concept about free individual determinism will is subjugated by a bureaucrat eating a donut and standing at the water cooler cooler to chat about retirement in Washington DC.

What's wrong with BOTH approaches? The good parents that work to raise their children can inform their children at home, and the children who don't have parents that care can get their information at school?

How does it hurt your kids to get the information twice?

I don'tknow that 'respect' is necessarily the word to use. But I do know that it helps if someonecan pique their interest or challenges them in such a way that they don't feel they've been put down because 'they're a kid'. And total strangers can do that--so that is why I quetion the word 'respect'.

I can't trust government. Even if I believed their intent was always good. Organizations like Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts and the mentors of Boys and Girls clubs, so long as they are heterosexual and non child abusers would work for me. Or a private doctor or nurse, given the same restrictions. I would accept church groups, but DEFINITELY with the same restrictions. Even private schools would be better, with the same restrictions, as anything government coul provide.

And there is no correcting government schools--all they ever do is throw more money at them and hope it works...there is no concern for the kids.

You clearly lay out why you support the wholesale murder of those who are deformed. It is all financial and convenience related. Same bogus claim the abortionists give today.

Ok, if name calling is how you deal with this subject, I will ask again and we can both cut through the bull.

In your mother's town where they killed babies who were deformed at birth:

It is clear you condone the murder of deformed children. What a stupid thing to say. He never said one thing about condoning it.

You clearly lay out why you support the wholesale murder of those who are deformed. Ridiculous. Why are you lying about what he said?

Perhaps you have not been following Biff. So below are quotes from sneakypete, with a few posed questions from other posters to give context. All responses are pete's if you scroll up. Pete is also pinged.

sneakypete posts on this thread regarding the smothering of children:

Dee,the truth is this has always been done, ever since the dawn of time. There are only two differences. One real difference is in days of yore it was midwives smothering the babies, not doctors with a needle. That's why you didn't seem many deformed or crippled kids back in the 50's and earlier. They "died at birth".

Working class people back then, especially ones in rural and farm communities just couldn't afford,in ANY sense of the word,a child that couldn't work and contribute to the family.

Why wouldn't it be true? My own mother told me about this when I was a child. She had witnessed this happen when the older woman across the street gave birth to a monster back in the early 40's. She said the child was smothered at birth, and the woman who gave birth was told it was stillborn.

So what? The truth is often ugly, which is why so many people lie. Granted, they are polite lies (you baby was stillborn) designed to spare someone's feelings, but lies none the less.

Wrong. While there was no yowling involved, there damn sure would have been if some of those babies had been allowed to live, and that's not even addressing the burden caring for such a child would have laid on the family. Children with birth defects has no chance of providing for themselves. They were a luxury people just couldn't afford.

On the other hand, I am sure your mom did the right thing and reported the murderous bitch who smothered the babies at birth. Yes,she did the right thing, and kept her mouth shut about it,just like women have done since the dawn of time.

So you think these midwives were doing the family a favor by murdering their children?

Of course. You are applying modern sensibilities to older realities, and feeling righteous about it.

Tell us all about how YOU would take the food out of the mouth of a healthy child that was able to do the work necessary to help keep a family alive,to give it to a unhealthy/handicapped child that would never be anything but a burden on the family and the whole "tribe".

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX End of sneakypete's comments XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

So my RLH comment is this. I see no comments from SP stating this was a horrible act. In fact, he tells us above his mother did the right thing.

The closest town was maybe a two day trip away at the time. This was a small village of maybe 50-75 people.

Do you or do you not support such actions?

Are you seriously asked me if I support actions taken by private individuals 60 or more years ago?

Ok,so you have a all-powerful God that wants to off a whole tribe of people that have pissed him off for some unknown reason or reasons, and instead of handing what would have surely been a simple matter for him (plague, locusts, turning them into salt, turning them into frogs, etc, etc, etc) he is so lazy and trifling he tells a tribe of Jews to do his dirty work for him?

A clever way to change the subject. But if you must know, this is my belief:

From Isaiah chapter 45:

9 “Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’? 10 Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What are you begetting?’ Or to the woman, ‘What have you brought forth?’”

11 Thus says the Lord, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me. 12 I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.

I can sense your anger. It is a lie to think that a person does not "march" to the "orders" of Someone, someone or something. I choose to trust and obey God in what He has revealed to us. That is not blindly following, but in full knowledge of what has been revealed.

You, from what I can read, trust and obey yourself.

That is the difference.

I'm going to focus and spend my energy on me being better rather than standing in judgement of others. I'm not a good person. Now where near good enough to judge others decisions when they are in trouble.

Biff, IMHO your post above is clear and honest. Thank you.

My "but" to all this is history is full of examples of allowing murders and genocide by turning a blind eye. Perhaps I was looking at a small town in Somewhere USA, where midwives "did a favor" to mothers with deformed children and saw a historical example. Perhaps looking the other way and not judging the midwives is akin to the neighbors of Jews in Germany who heard the SS come for the Jews, cart them off and then heard the trains pull away. I mean, what could those German neighbors really do right? They either looked the other way knowing this was not quite right, or they could have asked a few questions and then be loaded on those trains too.

I think my overarching point is, when do we stand up for the principles and morals we believe in. By doing or saying nothing, we condone the practices and IMO just as guilty.

Biff, you hit that one out of the ball park. Meaning, many people go an entire life in denial thinking they are "good." I am on the same team, I am not a "good" person either. No one is good, no not one. That is why we need the Gospel.
