Please keep redleghunter in your prayers. He has been diagnosed with colon cancer and will be going through surgery.

I just found out early this week and have emailed him since and have not gotten a reply. He didn't say when his surgery is, though I know having been through this myself that as soon as they find a tumor, they move within days to remove it. So he may actually have already had surgery or be going through it as I type. That's an unknown.

He did not give me permission to post this but neither did he indicate I shouldn't. So I hope he won't be upset that I have. At times like these, we could all use all the prayers and well wishes from those who truly care.

So please say a prayer for this man and his family. A man who has been with one of his sons day and night for the past year or so as the boy has battled cancer as well.

God Bless you redleghunter, and may the Lord guide your surgeons hands and move all involved in your care to do the best work they possibly can with God's help. In Jesus name, Amen.

He is a good guy, too; I enjoy his posts. I am not a religious person. But if there is a god, let us hope for a speedy recovery.

Yes, he is a very good man and I too enjoy his posts. He has already been through so much. He's a strong individual from what I've been able to discern from knowing him on line. I know he'll undertake this fight with all he has and his faith will see him through.

Do you know if they caught it early?

No. I got one email telling me he "joined the club". (Because of my own cancer I've had).

I fired off two emails to him within a day apart to ask questions but have not received a reply. That is why I believe he already has been through surgery or is to undergo it very, very soon.

They also won't know if it was caught early or not until they do the surgery. At that time they'll take surrounding fat and lymph node cells which will tell the tale in the lab.

My own was at stage 3, meaning the cancer cells had escaped the tumor and entered the rest of my body. Fortunately it hadn't invaded my liver, which is then a stage 4. If the cancer is found to be contained with in the tumor and no signs are in the outlying cells, I believe they determine it as stage 2 then. And I'm not real sure but I think they call for chemo for anything at stage 2 or above.

Pretty good. I've been through with chemo since the last of April and have slowly been recovering some strength. I did however, end up with neuropathy from the chemo. Especially in my feet, which really sucks when one needs to get in some walking and exercise. It has limited how long I can stand to be on my feet. But other than that, I'm grateful to still be here!

About 20 years ago I had Colon cancer, barrel tumor. I was in such bad shape by the time that I got to the hospital that they had to feed me nutrition intravenously for a few days before they could operate.

It went well and I ended up with a "double barrel colostomy" both ends brought to the outside, and wore a colostomy bag for a year, before having another surgery to reattach the ends of the descending colon. During that year I had Radiation Therapy and Chemo.

One more operation about 7 years later to fix a twist and resulting blockage, from one of the previous operations. All thing considered I came out of it all just fine. One thing I had going in my favor was that it happened when I was in my early 40's, which is unusual.

Prayers and best wishes for Red.

RLH, as I recall from LP, hasn't had a problem in requesting prayers for his son during his leukemia battle. I also believe he requested prayers for Gary at one time. So I'm inclined to believe he puts a lot of value in prayers and the warriors who offer them up.

And if he had preferred it not to be advertised, I'm sure he understands the brotherly love that motivated you.

And, in the end, God knows your heart as well.

Peace to you.

(1) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

(2) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

he leadeth me beside the still waters.

(3) He restoreth my soul:

he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

(5) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

(6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

AMEN

We are told to pray, believing.

"But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind" (James 1:6)
So I add my prayers to the others here at Liberty's Flame for redleghunter and his family:
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

"O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health. " (Psalm 30:2)

SJN, thank you for putting out requests for prayer. No I do not mind at all and really appreciate it. So God Bless you all who are praying for me and have been praying for my son. My son will soon be 13 (diagnosed at 10 plus) and will be complete with his chemo sometime late next summer. He is doing well, loses his hair now and then, it grows back, then loses it again. Other than that he has been very strong the past 6 months and trying to encourage him to go back doing some sports with friends.

Me? Had a bad family history with colon cancer on my mom's side. So after a good Army physical and some indicators of blood, they decided I needed a scope. Got it done (now in mid 40s) and they found a cancerous polyp in my colon that was causing the bleeding. Have my consults with surgeons (getting two opinions, one in the Army system and one out) over the next two weeks to discuss the best way to cut it out and drive on. CT Scan clean other than the area already known, and blood work came back good. They think this was caught early, but as SJN mentions they will not know until they cut me.

I want to thank all for the prayers. I do believe in the power of prayer. Many people think it is a "nice thing to say" to someone who needs it, but I know better and take all of your prayers seriously and know they will go before the Throne of God.

I did not respond quickly given we also "take care" of my parents long distance. My dad had a couple of falls in his nursing home and was admitted to run some tests.

God Bless you all for your prayers.

Grace and Peace

RLH

In situations like this and others encountered over the past 2.5 years, when I get the news I am drawn to the great faith exhibited in Daniel chapter 3.

I'm sitting here smiling, just wondering if God or his band of angels have filed my prayer requests regarding surgery for you--until the time you actually need them. :)

Seriously, I can't imagine not believing in the power of prayer.

I know from personal experience how effective prayer is from when I quit smoking 11 years ago after having smoked for some 40 plus years. God and I were really on a first name basis! I can honestly say I have never once felt that craving to smoke again. I even left an open pack of cigarettes, a lighter, and an ashtray on my coffee table. I didn't do this to test God, but to test my faith.

I can even walk by someone smoking, or sit by someone for that matter who smokes, and it doesn't bother me.

Amd I also post on a horse forum, where we have a lot of prayer requests. And that place is full of proof of the power of prayer.

Anyways, let us know the 'when'....I will continue praying regardless.

Likewise, Red...

And yes, the thought of saying a "prayer" will connote a mere "nice thing to say" to some people - sorta like "Good Luck," but there IS power in prayer.

Thanks for sorting out your situation (so we can ask for and envision your specific healing as well as for your son...and now dad).

Oh I'm so glad to hear from you! I'm glad you didn't mind my putting this out there.

So they do have to take the "polyp" out, but it hasn't gotten yet to being a tumor? I suppose since it's cancerous they have to get the surrounding tissue, so taking that area of the colon would be necessary, would be my own thought.

Well God Bless you and your warrior of a son, and please keep us updated on your progress, surgery date, etc.

I've been remembering you, your son and family in my prayers and will continue to do so.

Be strong, have faith and be optimistic that you will over come this current trial with the help of almighty God.

And all with out Government. Imagine that! By the way, I was in the same boat. Couldn't afford the colonoscopy cost with out health insurance, etc. I didn't know I had cancer until I entered the emergency room with intense pain that had me doubled over.

The point is, that these charities exist with out Government help and all one has to do is apply for them.
