The Army has revoked the Special Forces military occupational specialty of an Arkansas political candidate who claimed he served as a Green Beret in Iraq and Afghanistan. Kenneth Aden, a Democrat running against incumbent Rep. Steve Womack for Arkansas' 3rd District, has said in interviews he served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Green Beret, though a DD-214 and other documents he released to substantiate the claim only raised questions. In a statement Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Special Warfare Training Center at Fort Bragg, N.C., said Aden was dropped from Special Forces training in April 2008 "after failing twice to pass the Light Weapons Exam and Hands-on Mortar Exam." Nevertheless the center in June 2008 erroneously issued an order awarding him the 18 B MOS – Special Forces Weapons Sergeant – and then failed to catch the mistake. When told last week that the Army called Aden's MOS order a mistake and had revoked it, campaign spokesman Vincent Leibowitz said Aden never received orders pulling the MOS. That turns out to be true, since the Army only noticed and corrected its mistake after media attention focused on Aden's military background, according to training center spokeswoman Janice Burton. Retired Special Forces Master Sgt. Jeff "JD" Hinton, who has exposed many phony veterans or troops who embellished their records, says Aden had to know all along that he never was Special Forces. "He knew, just as we knew, that you don't get the award of the 18-series MOS unless you complete the entire" training program, Hinton said. "Somehow he held onto those orders and wore them like a king's crown." Aden had already backpedaled on claims that he served as a Green Beret in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying he misspoke. He did deploy and serve a combat tour with the 82nd Airborne Division.
Poster Comment: Somehow I don't see this poser going to any 82nd ABN reunions any time soon. Chances are if he does he is going to get the snot beaten out of him.

BTW,I seriously doubt this was done by mistake. Chances are he paid off a admin clerk to put his name on the list so he could brag about it in the future. There is no way he could NOT know he was flunked out of the course,and there is no way he could NOT know he didn't serve with SF in the Muddle East. All the 82nd Abn Div patches and maroon berets around him would have been a good first clue.

Me,either. Who could possibly think serving with the 82nd Abn Div in a combat zone was something to be ashamed of,and that they needed to say they served with another unit to get respect? I don't know about you,but *I* sure as hell wouldn't want to be telling this to combat vets from the 82nd. I used to know and served with a few of those guys from WW-2 that made all those jumps with the 82nd into Europe during WW-2,and I just don't think any of them would be amused. In fact,the very first SGM I ever met and talked with in my life was Charlie Ferguson,who had been a platoon sgt with the 82nd when they went to Europe. Tough old bird. He later because the first CSM of the Special Warfare Center. There were also a lot of those guys with the 187th RCT in Korea during that war,too. Anybody that things serving with a unit like that isn't "good enough" for bragging material is a freaking idiot.

That loser served 8 years as a mortar man with the 82nd and STILL couldn't pass the test to qualify firing mortars with SWC? BTW,I had no idea there was such a critter as a 18B THREE P? What the HELL is that? A 18 is the SF desiginator,and there ain't no such thing as a 18B3 anything. On top of that if he were a SF-qualified weapons man,there would be a S instead of a P at the end. This yahoo couldn't even fake it properly. Did he somehow type this nonsense up himself and get it put into his records? There is no way in hell this would pass muster with a admin clerk at a SF group. Even a leg admin clerk would know the proper designations from typing them up everyday.

He's a Buck Sgt in that photo,not a SSG,and he's wearing a 82nd patch on his shoulder. I do give him credit for not posing with a M-60 or 240 and a bloody bayonet in his teeth,though. That must have been hard for him to resist. Remember the posted photos from AlGore in VN,where he was posing with the borrowed web gear and M-16,and saying he went on patrols outside the wire? Come to find out the SOB not only never left the camp,but had his own bodyguard.
