Title: Atheist Files Discrimination Complaint Over PA Restaurant’s 10% Sunday Discount for People With Church Bulletins

An atheist has filed a discrimination complaint against a Columbia, Pennsylvania-based restaurant. The offense? The establishment has been offering a 10 percent discount for individuals who bring in a church bulletin on Sundays. John Wolff, who has officially issued his grievance with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, is hoping that Prudhomme’s Lost Cajun Kitchen is held accountable for its diner discount.

“I did this not out of spite, but out of a feeling against the prevailing self-righteousness that stems from religion, particularly in Lancaster County,” Wolff, a retired electrical engineer, said of his decision to go toe-to-toe with the restaurant. “I don’t consider it an earthshaking affair, but in this area in particular, we seem to have so many self-righteous religious people, so it just annoys me.”

But one of the co-owners of the restaurant, Sharon Prudhomme, isn‘t backing down to Wolff’s challenge. She claims that Lost Cajun Kitchen technically doesn’t discriminate, because people don’t actually have to be believers — or even attend church for that matter — to get the discount. Anyone, she claims, can walk into a church and take a bulletin.

Prudhomme is also doubling-down in saying that the restaurant has no intention of halting the discount program, Lancaster Online reports. Since Sundays are slow, the discount is intended to boost customer flow — something that is important during tough economic times.

Wolff‘s main issue is that he’s allegedly been offered different services because of his religious preferences or lack thereof. Prudhomme, though, calls the entire complaint “a waste.” Despite her opposition, the restaurant’s owners will need to respond to it within 30 days in writing.

Then, the commission will decide if the complaint is a viable one. If, indeed, the restaurant is found to be discriminating, a public hearing will result. In the end, it is possible that the restaurant, pending they lose, would be required to stop the promotion.

Is Wolff going to go after elderly widows next who try to get a 10% for being a senior. What we have here is a good business decision by the restaurant owner being challenged by a spiteful atheist who claims the people getting discounts are "self-righteous." The humourous piece to this is, how does an atheist measure "self-righteousness" in a relative worldview? (1 image)

Just for you pete. Add this to the "Just Cookies" owner who was sued for not making rainbow cupcakes. The list goes on.

Just for you pete.

Why is this just for me? I side with you and the restaurant owner on this one.

Restaurants are private businesses, and private businesses have a Constitutional RIGHT to discriminate for or against anybody or any group of people they want for any reason they want.

It's GOVERNMENT that can't discriminate.

Just pointing out "who" has the greatest effort out there to silence and punish our 1st Amendment. I knew you would agree, but for some reason you kept pounding that "the fundies" are doing the persecution. I provided examples of the opposite.

That's because the fundies have been doing it since even before the country was formed, and are still doing it today.

Perhaps with the help of meguro you can find some contrast or rebuttal to the facts I posted. Or do you take the perspective all is fair in "lifestyle and war?"

.

You really don't get it do you red?

Pete is a active practicing religious BIGOT, he especially despises CHRISTIANS.

There is NOTHING that you can say or do to move him off of that.

But that doesn't make him or his ilk factually correct.

They're just standard issue religious bigots.

btw red in a secular society such as ours, I believe that as long as they don't act out their bigotry, they have the right to despise whoever they want to, and it doesn't have to make sense to anybody but them.

I think that it's STOOOPID, but it's their choice.

That's what liberty means.

People get to be wrong.

I believe that as long as they don't act out their bigotry

But they do, and litigate and legislate the bigotry.

See any problem with this statement?

"THEY" do act out and legislate the bigotry.

Who is THEY?

How can you say ALL of them do anything? in your example who ELECTED these azzholes?

My point stands.

In a mixed religious SECULAR nation, as long as WE don't act out our PREJUDICES we are allowed to have such PREJUDICES.

I personally am a religious bigot against islam.

NONE of us is "pure".

ALL of us are sinners.

ALL of us are flawed.

EVERY Fing one of us is a BIGOT in some thing.

Pete just has a real hard on for CHRISTIANS.

That's HIS problem, not ours.

We punish BEHAVIOR not THOUGHT, (so far any way).
