(Reuters) - Actor Andy Griffith, whose portrayal of a small-town sheriff made "The Andy Griffith Show" one of American television's most enduring shows, has died at his North Carolina home, television station WITN reported on Tuesday. The television station quoted a longtime friend as saying that the 86-year-old actor died at his home on Roanoke Island. The Dare County Sheriff's dispatcher would say only that an ambulance was called to Griffith's residence but would not comment further. Griffith created another memorable character, the folksy defense lawyer in "Matlock" in the 1980s and '90s, but it was his portrayal of Sheriff Andy Taylor on the "The Andy Griffith Show" in the 1960s that gave him a place in U.S. television history. The show portrayed life in the friendly, slow-moving fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina, which was widely believed to have been based on Griffith's own hometown, Mount Airy, North Carolina.

Another socialist propagandist bites the dust. The government recently enlisted aged actor Andy Griffith for a commercial showcasing Medicare benefits available through health care reform. North's Carolina's old people, at least, didn't appreciate these lies, and Griffith's favorability rating has dropped 25 percentage points there. ****************************************************************************** Politico reports that the Obama administration’s pro-Obamacare Andy Griffith TV ad cost taxpayers $3.66 million, according to records obtained from the Department of Health and Human Services. Actually, there were at least three such ads (here, here, and here), so it’s not clear whether this was the cost for one, or for the whole batch. In this ad, Griffith says, “That new health care law sure sounds good for all of us on Medicare!”
Sorry, I'm going to give Andy a pass on that one. The guy was in his 80's when he did that spot, I doubt that he was even aware of what he was reading off the TelePrompter. Even if he was, I'm not going to let that one mis-step keep me from enjoying his massive body of entertainment. And you know what? Even though Andy was a life-long Democrat, at least he had the class not to shove it into anyone's face like Sean Penn or any of the loud-mouthed Hollywood stars now. In addition to his online video with Howard in 2008, in politics Griffith has favored Democrats and recorded television commercials endorsing North Carolina Governors Mike Easley and Bev Perdue. He spoke at the inauguration ceremonies of both. In 1984, he declined an offer by Democratic party officials to run against Jesse Helms, a Republican U.S. Senator from North Carolina. One can still respect and admire the body of work of Andy Griffith...yet still disrespect his politics and be reminded that after all, he'd become one more tool of the Hollywood Left.

The sheriff he portrayed was likely a conservative, but that doesn't mean the actor was. I think we identify too much with the part, and assume the actor is similar. At least James Arness was a Republican. Perhaps he was more like the character he played than most. I usually hope so, for some reason.
What you two seem to be missing is that people of his generation grew up with Democrats that were conservatives. Yeah,FDR and that bunch out of the NE were commies,but things were different in most of the rest of the country. Ronald Reagan used to be a Democrat. So did Jesse Helms and many others.

I know you are a little deranged,so I will try to explain this to you. Andy Griffith was a Democrat 70 years ago. He was also a church-going Christian.

Who ever said he wasn't? That doesn't mean his political views weren't based on being a Patriotic American. They were based on the values he grew up with and still held. He also put his money were his mouth was by going in his own pocket to create a band at a rural high school. He not only bought all the instruments,he even paid the music teacher's salary the first year. This was back in the 60's. More recently he bought all the computers and software to create a computer lab and class at a high school. I don't know why yuo can't understand that he grew up in a era when it was the Dims that were conservatives,and the Republicans that were the globalists working to destroy America. If there is anybody on this board that should understand the power of being programmed while still a child,it should be you.

Sneaky, Liberator isn't the only person in America that seemingly doesn't know, or understand this about the parties and how they have 'switched' description over the years. I only came to this realization about 20 years ago after reading an article about the parties and then making a 'connection' as I was working on genealogy where most of my ancestors are southerners. I was told by one of the gals I was searching with that she had been at a genealogy library in Texas trying to locate a book in the hopes of finding a really difficult person to locate in Arkansas. An elderly gentleman was standing by the counter listening. When she had said this, he told her that his daddy had told him that when the feds came around, the hill and holler peoples hid out as they wanted nothing to do with them government people. This is understandable considering how the southerners were treated after the civil war was over. It explains why so many people left the south and moved westward to get away from the tyranny being forced upon them by the federal government for trying to break away from the union they had helped form.
