Police in a small Texas town are investigating the shooting of a female couple who may have been targeted. The women were found lying in "knee-deep" grass in a park in Portland, Texas, early Saturday. Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her girlfriend, 18-year-old Mary Christine Chapa, was hospitalized with a single gunshot wound to the head. Chapa was listed in critical but stable condition on Monday.
Portland police Chief Randy Wright told Corpus Christi's KZTV that "this particular case does have some of the earmarks of a targeted attack," though he would not say if the women were targeted because of their sexual orientation. "That's always something that we're looking for, but as of this point, we have not been able to establish that that had anything to do with the attack."
"At best, we know they were really good friends," Wright told CNN. "Some of their friends have stated that they were in a relationship."
The women were believed to have been shot sometime late Friday or early Saturday.
Investigators told KRIS-TV that the women likely "walked with their assailant down a trail into knee-deep grass, where they were shot with a large caliber handgun."
According to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, a resident who lives adjacent to the park "heard two loud bangs just before midnight Friday but thought they were firecrackers."
Olgin's roommate, Samantha Garrett, told KZTV she has been "trying to think of anybody I know that would try and hurt them for any reasonespecially them being a coupleand not one person has ever come to mind."
Friends of the couple gathered at a local high school on Sunday to mourn Olgin's death. They said Olgin and Chapa had been dating for five months.

Propaganda, plain and simple.
Through the power of suggestion, a "Hate Crime" has just been committed you bigoted Christian homophobes! Do you feel guilty yet?
IF this were two straight white guys, CNN and the media would be yawning....NO, make that shoring.
Hmmm...Have Sarah Palin or Romney been fingered (no pun intended) as a "person-of-interest" yet by Holder's DoJ?
Let's review this story:
NO motive. NO hearsay. NO suspect. NO evidence. NOTHING gives ANY indication to presume that these shootings were the result of "homophobia". But THAT is the presumption.
And of course - here we have another official tool-in-charge pressured for a motive of this (cough, hack) "Hate Crime", as clearly Portland police Chief Randy Wright is in this case while admitting, "That's ["Hate Crimes" always something that we're looking for."
Why, Chief? Is this case epidemic in your town? Constitutionally speaking, is it any MORE of a crime than any other murder, Chief Wright?
I'm going to predict the perp is a ANOTHER lesbo - a spurned queer lover. But we won't hear THAT part of the story when this investigation easily solved within a couple of days.
