A Republican committee in Massachusetts has dumped 17 presidential delegates and alternates who are supporters of Texas Rep. Ron Paul. The Allocations Committee took the action because the delegates failed to meet a deadline for filing an affidavit committing themselves to support Mitt Romney, The Boston Globe reports. The affidavit required the delegates, chosen in caucuses, to support the former Massachusetts governor because of his resounding victory in the primary, held before the caucuses. Republican Party rules don’t include any provisions for choosing delegates, and delegates have never been required to sign such affidavits in the past, GOP critics say. They suspect the delegates were ousted simply because they support Paul. But the Romney campaign was within its rights to axe the delegates, Allocations Committee Chairman Ed McGrath said in a statement. “Gov. Romney’s campaign, through its representative on the Allocation Committee, made the decision not to certify certain delegates and alternate delegates who were unwilling to sign and return on time the affidavit,” he said. “The Allocation Committee agreed, by a unanimous vote, that these individuals’ failure to sign and return the correct affidavit on time constituted ‘just cause’ for not being certified as national delegates.” Paul’s supporters want to work at the convention to promote his platform, such as limiting the Federal Reserve’s power to make monetary policy and the president’s power to declare war. Massachusetts, perhaps the country’s most Democratic state, could gain more attention than usual at the GOP convention in August, thanks to Romney’s status as ex-governor of the state. I believe lawsuits are in order.
They were ousted because when the nomination process at the GOP National Convention being shown in prime time on national television comes to Massachusetts, they want to be seen as casting a unanimous vote for the 'favored son' as their delegate count, when added to the tally thus far, will put him over the magic number to 'win' the nomination. They certainly couldn't have a divided house from the home state of the 'favored son'....that would make the GOP look bad, doncha know...as if they needed another reason to look bad!
I've no doubt about all you said, but we need to hold them to their own rules.
Certainly rules are meant to be kept. That said, I gave up on the GOP a long time ago. Once I found out that the good old boys really don't want to change anything, other than who is in control of their particular house of government. I kknow this from having run for office under the GOP banner, and having served in the Senate staff when I lost.
Kudos for your attempt to right a faltering if not sinking ship!
Let me just throw this out there. What if Ron Paul had won and they were trying to do this to him?
There's a reason that the delegate selection process is different than the popular vote primary. It's so that hardworking grassroots candidates have a voice at the convention with their delegates. Subverting the process makes the Mass. GOP and Romney look corrupt. It also makes the GOP primary and the nomination look rigged and fake. Why? Because they ARE corrupt, phoney, rigged, fake, and every bit as bad as the Dems. No hope, no change... same ol' shiite. Just say NO to Mitts and Obongo!

So that independents can be fooled into believing Romney = 0buma! :-)
