Lansing— Michigan reports that the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate dropped a full percentage point statewide and fell in all major labor markets.

The April figures released Thursday show joblessness statewide at 8 percent, compared with 9 percent in March and 10.1 percent in April 2011.

State labor analysts say April's drop was typical with seasonal hiring throughout most of the state. The reductions were highest in the northernmost labor markets as hiring began for the summer tourism season.

Seasonally adjusted joblessness has been falling for months in Michigan. Eight of the state's metropolitan regions report unemployment rates at or below the national seasonally adjusted rate of 7.7 percent.

Because 1% of the Labor Force dropped out of the market.

100 million are unemployed.

Actually michigans labor force dropped as so many left the state when our jobless rate was hovering around 14%.

That said, things are feeling pretty good around these parts and should remain so for awhile.

Just look at the glut of 10+ year-old vehicles that have to be replaced soon as you ride down the road.

Yep, hondo88 has the article just down the page here:

"What this means is that there are going to be a lot of neighborhoods that will have the lights turned off permanently.

So which neighborhoods will those be?

According to one top Detroit official, "distressed areas" are going to be on the low end of the totem pole....

“You have to identify those neighborhoods where you want to concentrate your population,” said Chris Brown, Detroit’s chief operating officer. “We’re not going to light distressed areas like we light other areas.”

City officials know that they cannot force people to move from "distressed areas", so they are going to encourage them to leave by cutting off services.

But turning off the lights is not the only way that Detroit is trying to save money.

Recently, officials in Detroit announced that all police stations in the city will be closed to the public for 16 hours a day."

Looks like Michigan is Morning in America again....;}
