Republican strategist Alex Castellanos denied Sunday morning the actual fact that women in America make less than men from work. In a roundtable discussion on NBC’s Meet The Press, Castellanos displayed signs of disagreement when MSNBC host Rachel Maddow mentioned the statistic that women make 77 cents for every dollar as their male counterparts. Noticing Castellanos’ discomfort, Maddow pressed the strategist on his viewpoint.
“Women don’t make less than men?” she asked.
“Actually if you start looking at the numbers Rachel, um, there’s lots of reasons for that,” Castellanos replied.
“Wait wait, no, don’t tell me the reasons why, do women make less than men?” Maddow pressed.
“Um, no,” Castellanos said, before later dismissing Maddow’s current emotions.
“I wish you were as right about what you’re saying as you are passionate about it,” he said. “I really do.”
