International News Title: Another Neocon Demands the Decimation of Iran Joshua Muravchik, neocon “scholar” at the American Enterprise Institute, the criminal organization where Bush gets his “minds,” wants to shock and awe Iran, and soon. “The only way to forestall” Iran’s figmental nuclear weapon program, writes Muravchik in the “liberal” Los Angeles Times, “is by the use of force. Not by invading Iran as we did Iraq, but by an air campaign against Tehran’s nuclear facilities.” Muravchik hankers to “inflict severe damage,” supposedly on Iran’s phantasmal nuke program, but since such a program does not exist, the damage will likely be on the people of Iran, who after all support the mullahs and thus, under the demented rubric of neocon logic, deserve to be killed and maimed, as the Iraqis continue to be killed and maimed. “What should be the timing of such an attack? If we did it next year, that would give time for U.N. diplomacy to further reveal its bankruptcy yet would come before Iran will have a bomb in hand (and also before our own presidential campaign). In time, if Tehran persisted, we might have to do it again.” In short, it will be done on Bush’s watch, with predictable spillover for the complaisant Democrats, who will dominate Congress and likely take up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue come January, 2009. Democrats, naturally, deserve any spillover, and in spades. As the Darth Vader of the neocons, Dick Cheney, has said, according to ace journalist Seymour Hersh, it does not matter if the Democrats control Congress, because it will not “stop the administration from pursuing a military option with Iran.” In addition, as suspected by those of us who read beyond Fox News headlines, Hersh’s sources indicate “that a classified draft CIA assessment had found no firm evidence of a secret drive by Iran to develop nuclear weapons, as alleged by the White House,” reports Breitbart. Recall veteran CIA officer Tyler Drumheller excising an entire paragraph from Secretary of State Colin Powell’s United Nations speech on Iraq’s supposed weapons of mass destruction back in January 2003. Drumheller knew a claim proffered about mobile biological labs built by Iraq for germ warfare was nonsense, a fabrication dreamed up by a mental case Iraqi defector going by the name Curveball. Even so, Powell had the paragraph reinserted, delivered his now infamous speech, Iraq was invaded two months later, and the rest is history. It was late, far too late, in 2005 when the CIA issued its report, Iraq: No Large-Scale Chemical Warfare Efforts Since Early 1990s. “The CIA has finally admitted that its WMD estimates were wrong,” Rep. Jane Harman of California, ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said at the time, thus dispelling CIA Director George Tenet’s assertion that finding WMD in Iraq would be a “slam dunk.” Eventually, Tenet would be slam dunked right out of the agency, for “personal reasons,” of course, although he managed to exit stage right with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in hand, thus demonstrating once again that the faithful service of liars and dissimulators does not go unrewarded. “Can President Bush take such action after being humiliated in the congressional elections and with the Iraq war having grown so unpopular?” asks Muravchik. “Bush has said that history’s judgment on his conduct of the war against terror is more important than the polls. If Ahmadinejad gets his finger on a nuclear trigger, everything Bush has done will be rendered hollow. We will be a lot less safe than we were when Bush took office.” In other words, Muravchik and the neocons don’t give a whit about the American people or polls indicating the occupation of Iraq is vastly unpopular, as the neocon “clash of civilizations” agenda must move forward at all cost, not only decimating sovereign nations and slaughtering innocents, but trashing the Constitution as well. Besides, neocons such as Muravchik have nothing but contempt for the American people, for as Norman Podhoretz, the neocon éminence grise, once stated, the American people don’t have the “stomach” to engage in cataclysmic violence and genocide. In Bushzarro world, we are “less safe” if we respect Iran’s sovereignty, and more safe if we instigate a wider conflict, close down the Straits of Hormuz, jack up oil prices, and destroy what’s left of the economy. Dead people, in Iran and Iraq, no small number of them U.S. soldiers, are of no concern to Joshua Muravchik and the neocons. It’s price worth paying, to paraphrase Madeleine Albright. “Finally, wouldn’t such a U.S. air attack on Iran inflame global anti-Americanism? Wouldn’t Iran retaliate in Iraq or by terrorism? Yes, probably. That is the price we would pay. But the alternative is worse.” In fact, the alternative is a Middle East with Iran intact, an idea that does not sit well with the Jabotinskyites in Israel and the Israel First neocons over at the American Enterprise Institute. “After the Bolshevik takeover of Russia in 1917, a single member of Britain’s Cabinet, Winston Churchill, appealed for robust military intervention to crush the new regime. His colleagues weighed the costs—the loss of soldiers, international derision, revenge by Lenin—and rejected the idea,” Muravchik concludes. “The costs were avoided, and instead the world was subjected to the greatest man-made calamities ever. Communism itself was to claim perhaps 100 million lives, and it also gave rise to fascism and Nazism, leading to World War II. Ahmadinejad wants to be the new Lenin. Force is the only thing that can stop him.” An interesting comment, considering Joshua Muravchik is the former national chairman of the Young People’s Socialist League, the germinating seed of the Communist Party USA. But then the neocon ranks are rife with former communists, such as David Horowitz (more accurately described as a former Marxist, although some fail to see a difference), and the very forefathers of the neocon movement are onetime Trotskyites. Other neocons hailing from YPS include Carl Gershman and Max Green. Many of them found their way under the wing of Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson, including Richard “Prince of Darkness” Perle and Paul Wolfowitz, currently president of the World Bank loan sharking operation. Ahmadinejad is no Lenin, but never mind. Now, in addition to fascism, we are told Iran embraces Leninism under the rule of Ahmadinejad. Next thing you know, Muravchik and crew will be telling us Ahmadinejad lectures the proletariat on the dangers of the false consciousness of the bourgeois and religion serving as the opium of the masses. Last time I checked, the Qur’an didn’t lecture on historical materialism.
