Civil-rights organizers from the NAACP and other groups today are marching down Sanford's 13th street in the heart of one of the city's historic black neighborhoods to Sanford Police headquarters to demand the arrest of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The march began at 11 a.m. at the Crooms Academy of Information Technology with an estimated 500 participatants, including people who have been bused in from across the country. Shot in the chest," marchers are saying as they head to Sanford PD. Several downtown streets are currently closed: 13th Street from U.S. Highway 17-92 to Lake Avenue and Persimmon Street from McCracken Road to 13th Street. Both the Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson are attending and have made remarks about escalating the pressure on authorities to make an arrest in the case. Meanwhile, the Florida Civil Rights Association announced today that it supports Sharpton's call for economic sanctions.

SPRINGFIELD - A sea of hooded activists descended on the steps of City Hall Saturday morning to join the 1,000 Hoodies Walk to protest the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman in Central Florida in late February. The shooting has sparked an international furor over racial profiling, catching fire on social networking channels and inspiring protests across the globe. The local event appeared to live up to its billing as nearly 1,000 people of all ages and racial and ethnic backgrounds turned out in Springfield. The crowd convened at City Hall and Court Square before taking a route on foot throughout the downtown. "It's ridiculous that a 17-year-old had to die to get the world to stand up and take notice," said 27-year-old Tomeka Ligon, of Springfield, before the march began. The hoodie, a wardrobe staple of youth everywhere, has taken on new meaning in the context of the Martin shooting. Obama's watch stopped on 24 May 2008, but he's been too busy smoking crack to notice.
I assume they got gunned down by some white Hispanics on their way to the march. The only possible explanation. Seems like a puny protest, considering they were paying their astroturf protesters after busing them in from all over.
These are two different events.
