SANFORD, Fla. A brush fire that burned in Sanford about 1 mile from the Trayvon Martin rally was contained Monday. The blazed burned between two railroad tracks near First Street and Airport Boulevard.
At this point, investigators said they dont know what started the fire.
It could have thrown some sparks possibly hot embers off the train from the brakes or something like that, Sanford Fire Department Mark James said.
Old railroad ties were pulled out and have been left in several piles along the tracks and are causing further suspicion of arson.
And it looks like they started it at almost every pile of wood that we have, James said.
Fire crews were on alert because of several thousand people who had been gathering for the Trayvon Martin rally a mile away.
It could be civil unrest were not sure we cant confirm or deny it, James said.
Investigators will check to see if any cameras near the tracks caught people on tape.
