David Axelrod Backs Off Bill Maher Appearance David Axelrod, the chief communications officer for President Obama’s re-election campaign, will not appear on “Real Time with Bill Maher”, despite reports that he was scheduled to appear as a guest in the coming weeks. “He’s not scheduled to go on at this time,” Ben LaBolt, the press secretary for the Obama campaign told Politico. Maher has been under attack from the right recently, who have lashed out in response to the criticism of Rush Limbaugh’s calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute.” The right has focused on Maher’s past sexist comments that include calling Sarah Palin a “c*nt” and a “dumb tw*t.” Although Maher recently pledged $1 million to the pro-Obama Priorities USA Super PAC, the left has sought to distance themselves from the comedian in recent weeks as similarities between the two media personalities have come to light. Last week, The Daily Caller reported that the Alabama Democratic Party had cut ties with Maher after he was scheduled to headline a fundraiser. In the wake of the Limbaugh controversy, Axelrod spoke out about the fact that GOP hopeful Mitt Romney had not condemned the radio host’s comments, saying that Romney “essentially refused to comment on what was a really egregious set of comments by Limbaugh” and “[Romney is] afraid to challenge a guy who’s the de-facto head of his party,” Politico reported.
