With a terrible feeling of pain and loss we announce the passing of Andrew Breitbart. Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles. We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior. Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love. Andrew recently wrote a new conclusion to his book, Righteous Indignation: I love my job. I love fighting for what I believe in. I love having fun while doing it. I love reporting stories that the Complex refuses to report. I love fighting back, I love finding allies, and—famously—I enjoy making enemies. Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night. Like I said, you are arrogant enough to try to invent my position on that issue for me. And this attempt to say my consistently held and professed opinion on the topic is some sort of lie I concocted in 1995 I have advocated in many forums and in real life, including in local newspaper article quoting me is some sort of invention made to try to pull the wool over your eyes shows your inability to deal with reality; not mine. I ran for city council in Eugene, Oregon in 2001 against Scott Meisner, a gay man who had been on the Council for several years in my district. In the Register Guard and in advertisements I bought my positions on many issues were laid out. My position against abortion helped sink me in a very liberal area where I lived. So; you are saying I spent time and effort to try to win a city council position, but lied about my stand against abortion because I knew I would meet you online eventually, and want to try to fuck with you on the issue. That chum is hubris from you in an epic size and proportion showing how unrealistically seriously you take yourself. You are not important enough to me to lie now on the issue. And my position on the issue has cost me popularity and friends locally for many years. You can contact the Register Guard and buy all the articles ever written about me, or on that election specifically should you chose to. But there is nothing that says I have to prove anything to arrogant little you about the fact I feel abortion is the wrong response to being pregnant. You consider me extremely liberal. Extremely liberal Eugeneans consider me to be somewhat conservative. I spent the better part of every Saturday at a booth I helped fund and set up at the Wayne Morse free speech plaza next to Saturday market in Eugene, Oregon promoting Ron Paul for President. I have contributed to Ron Paul last time he ran and this time. What is his position on abortion, chum? Can arrogant little you tell me that please? We will be doing our promotion of Dr. Paul aggressively in that very effective spot I saw the Obama campaign booth at successfully the last election when Saturday market sets up again the first week in April. Anyone who wants to physically contact me and listen to me talk about who I want to be president, why this is so, or even wants to know why I am against abortion can find me there every Saturday starting in April. Anyone who knows me and my political positions locally will tell you I am an asshole for not standing up for "a woman's right to chose." So, shut up and grow up. The burden of proof I am lying on the issue is on you. And I will cover any expense to you for sending for copies of articles from that election year I am mentioned as a candidate for city council and pubically eat crow if I am not telling the truth right now.
