In the last 50 years, American women have finally been able to reliably earn a living, thus rendering men economically unnecessary. Women are outstripping men in education. We’re breaking the glass ceiling. Childbirth out of wedlock no longer carries disgrace. There’s enough sperm stashed away in banks to promulgate the human race indefinitely. On a biological level, modern science has debunked the Adam’s rib story about the female being a derivative of the male. Still more shattering, there’s even worry that the Y chromosome is in danger of extinction. At the very least, it has seen better days. As the New York Times recently reported: “Men, or at least male biologists, have long been alarmed that their tiny Y chromosome, once the same size as its buxom partner, the X, will continue to wither away until it simply vanishes. The male sex would then become extinct, they fear, leaving women to invent some virgin-birth method of reproduction and propagate a sexless species.” That’s gotta make Rick Santorum nervous. (Though the Times does concede that men may have “long-term viability” after all). Conservatives find themselves in an era of technological advance, information on steroids, women on the rise, and men who do not know what their role is supposed to be. Can we be surprised that they look back wistfully on a “simpler time” when gender roles were strictly defined – and when men did the defining?

Oooooh, GOODY.... another idiotic article by the resident bimbo... Let the fun begin! Oh, yes, I remember this line... Gloria Steinem said "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle," right? Yehaw! How clever! And she looks so HAPPY, doesn't she? Well, look that the bright side... after 50+ years of spouting her feminazi crap, she got married... to a MAN!!!!!! [[[GASP!]]] What's the expression I'm thinking of, here??? Oh yeah, it's liberal hypocrite!!! Oh, and men suddenly become economically necessary, when the woman has a child... Oh, the irresponsible women will pawn their child off on a "day-care," where the kid is exposed to nasty bugs, antisocial behavior and the risk of being molested by her "baby-sitter," but HEY! You want a career, a family and the SUV! And let's face it, that baby makes a great accessory to my plan and image...! Of course, that whole plan crashes, when you have two children... LOL. Now, next point? The first point is amusing. The second assumes that there is a false ceiling, when the reality is that it simply doesn't exist. Nice try. You fail. The following quote demonstrates the sheer idiocy of this statement. Violent Crime and Fatherlessness In 1996, Congress continued business as usual by enacting legislation which will do little or nothing to reduce violent crime, but which will infringe civil liberties. The Clinton/Dole terrorism bill is Exhibit A, while the anti- gun laws snuck through in the closing days of Congress are exhibit B. But almost by accident, the last Congress ended up doing something which, in the long run, will likely lead to a major decrease in violent crime: welfare reform. For all the talk about the complexities of the "root causes" of crime, there is one root cause which overwhelms all the rest: fatherlessness. Almost 70 percent of juveniles incarcerated in state reform institutions come from homes with no father or without their natural parents. Most gang members, 60 percent of rapists, and 75 percent of teenage homicide perpetrators come from single-parent homes. Young black males from singleparent families are twice as likely to engage in crime as young black males from two-parent families. If the single-parent family is in a neighborhood with a large number of other single-parent families, the odds of the young man becoming involved in crime are tripled. These findings are based on a study conducted for the Department of Health and Human Services by M. Anne Hill and June O'Neill of Baruch College. The study carefully held constant all socioeconomic variables (such as income, parental education, or urban setting) other than single parenthood. Crime has often been thought of as a problem of race or poverty, since poor people and racial minorities comprise a larger portion of the violent criminal population than of the population as a whole. But in fact, the causal link between fatherlessness and crime is so strong that controlling for family configuration erases the relationship between race and crime and between low income and crime," as Barbara Dafoe Whitehead noted in her famous "Dan Quayle was Right" article. Sounds good, except the maximum amount of time in which human sperm is viable, is 55 years, not "indefinitely." Again, you don't want facts to get in the way of your preconceived opinions [aka "delusions"], now, do you??? I could go on, and embarrass you further (though, as a liberal, you are largely immune to embarrassment, since- by definition- you have no shame. But there's no need; the point is made, your article is full of crap, and you're an empty-headed fool. THANKS for the laughs!!!!!!

From a letter written by Ms Steinem to "Time" magazine In your note on my new and happy marital partnership with David Bale, you credit me with the witticism 'A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.' In fact, Irina Dunn, a distinguished Australian educator, journalist and politician, coined the phrase back in 1970 when she was a student at the University of Sydney. She paraphrased the philosopher who said, 'Man needs God like fish needs a bicycle.' Dunn deserves credit for creating such a popular and durable spoof of the old idea that women need men more than vice versa.
