Actually, this public decision is only the tip of the iceberg. According to our information several international meetings were organized during the past week 061512-062212 to coordinate the disinformation campaign. Back in 2007, you had all sort of people, both AGW skeptics, as well those who should know better, suggest that 2007 was simply an aberration, or a "one off" event caused by the "perfect storm" of conditions-- meaning of course that there was not a long-term dynamic going on that should have caused 2007's rather dramatic decline. Then we saw slightly higher minimums in 2008 and 2009, leading some to suggest a "recovery" was underway. Folks like Joe Bastardi were even predicting that we'd see a return to the sea ice condtions of the 1970's. What we've seen indicated in 2010, 2011, and now 2012, is that 2007 was not an aberration in the black swan sense, but in the dragon-king sense. A black swan is a simple aberration that is highly improbable, but still can occur with the right set of circumstances. A dragon-king event is a tipping-point event that indicates that some new regime has begun. 2007 indicated that the Arctic sea ice had entered a new regime, and the much lower lows were coming sooner than any of the models had shown as possible. How could the models have been so wrong? First, models cannot really predict dragon-king events. The prediction of a regime change for a dynamic non-linear system simply can't be shown in models. Obviously one of the missing ingredients of the models is a full accounting of all ways that energy enters the Arctic and affects the total volume of sea ice. The net energy flow to the Arctic has been increasing for many years through multiple channels, some of which have strongly interacting positive feedback processes. 2007 represented a cascading series of feedbacks that brought about the extremely low years. Friday, July 20, 2012 Jeff Masters: Record warmth at the top of Greenland Ice Sheet by Jeff Masters, WunderBlog, July 18, 2012 The coldest place in Greenland, and often the entire Northern Hemisphere, is commonly the Summit Station. Located at the top of the Greenland Ice Sheet, 10,552 feet (3,207 meters) above sea level, and 415 miles (670 km) north of the Arctic Circle, Summit rarely sees temperatures that rise above the freezing mark. In the 12-year span 2000-2011, Summit temperatures rose above freezing only four times, according to weather records researcher Maximiliano Herrera. But remarkably, over the past week, temperatures at Summit have eclipsed the freezing mark on five days, including four days in a row from July 11 to 14. There are actually three weather stations located at the location -- Summit, Summit-US, and Summit AWS. The highest reliable temperature measured at any of the three stations is now the 3.6 °C (38.5 °F) measured on Monday, July 16, 2012, at Summit-US. A 4.4 °C reading at Summit in May 2010 is bogus, as can be seen by looking at the adjacent station. Similarly, a 3.3 °C reading from June 2004 is also bad. Records at Summit began in 1996.
Meantime, preliminary records from NCDC showed 145 high temperature records broken Wednesday and 67 records tied in 23 states: Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

And since both sides agree that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a credible source to rely on for climate science information, we turn to NOAA's ClimateWatch Magazine for this online article from June 14, 2012: • The average global temperature (land and ocean) for May 2012 was the second warmest May temperature since recordkeeping began in 1880, and the temperature over land surfaces was the warmest on record for May. • May 2012 also marks the 327th consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th-century average. • The last month with below average temperatures was February 1985. • The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for May 2012 was more than 1°F above the 20th century average. • This was also the 36th consecutive May with a global temperature above the 20th century average. • The last May with a below-average temperature was May 1976. • The global land surface temperature was more than 2°F above the 20th century average, making it the all-time warmest May on record. • Most areas of the world experienced much warmer-than-average monthly temperatures, including nearly all of Europe, Asia, northern Africa, most of North America, and southern Greenland. Of course, since we are now in July, we now have 328 consecutive months of above average temperatures. And next month, it will be 329 and so on. Dr. Ricky Rood took a look at the odds of registering "327 months in a row above the average temperature of the 20th century."
