The psychological literature does indeed say that if you scare people too much, they'll just turn off and say global warming isn't happening. And it's true, that's what people do, and of course this characteristic human behavior is not helpful as we face the future. Denial only makes a bad situation worse. Those who have not reacted this way to dire climate forecasts have remained upbeat because they believe—they've been told by "experts" they trust—that solutions to the climate problem are readily available and cheap to implement. (For example, see my post Understanding Paul Krugman's View Of The Future.)

Optimists are becoming less sanguine as time goes on and no actions are taken, but if people actually understood what is required to fix global warming, many of them would probably react the way the North Carolina Senate did when they voted to ignore future sea level rise....

Experts say there are no clear answers to what comes next for Stockton or how its fall will affect the rest of the state. Other cities hit hard by the housing bust and state budget crisis are negotiating with employee unions for concessions and are watching to see if municipal bankruptcy proves medicine or poison.

Went to my Wal MArt last night about 7.

IT was a ghost town.

Now this Wal Mart is one of Wal Marts Flagship stores.

A Model for it's system.

MY wife asked where were the Greeters.

The guy at the register said they'd been let go.

So how were we to mark Returns? (Formerly the Greeters' job.)

'Just go strait to Customer Service.'

A wizened Lady at a cash register next to, overhearing, stated (Like I said, They were DEFINITELY not busy;}

Next, Begging the Question:

'So what happens if the beeper goes off'.

And Everyone understood immediately what my wife meant by that....LMAO...8D

Wizened Lady:

'O it happens regularly, especially if I'm checking people out. They wave over their shoulder to me and I wave back.....'

“As a cavalry scout, it is my job to stay hidden. Wearing a uniform that stands out this badly makes it hard to do our job effectively,” he said. “If we can see our own guys across a distance because of it, then so can our enemy.”

The fact that the government spent $5 billion on a camouflage design that actually made its soldiers more visible — and then took eight years to correct the problem — has also left people in the camouflage industry incensed. The total cost comes from the Army itself and includes the price of developing the pattern and producing it for the entire service branch.

So, pray tell, how exactly did this particular clusterfuck happen, anyway?

The problem, the researchers said, was an oddly named branch of the Army in charge of equipping soldiers with gear — Program Executive Office Soldier — had suddenly ordered Natick’s camouflage team to pick a pattern long before trials were finished.

“They jumped the gun,” said James Fairneny, an electrical engineer on Natick’s camouflage team.

Researchers said they received a puzzling order: Take the winning colors and create a pixilated pattern. Researchers were ordered to “basically put it in the Marine Corps pattern,” Fairneny said.

For a decision that could ultimately affect more than a million soldiers in the Army, reserves and National Guard, the sudden shift from Program Executive Office Soldier was a head-scratcher.

Fragging....

In the U.S. military, fragging (from fragmentation grenade) refers to the act of deliberately assassinating another member, or members of the military, particularly (a) member(s) of ones own command or fighting squad. Additionally, the term can be applied to manipulating the chain of command in order to have an individual, or unit, deliberately killed, by placing them into harm's way with the intended result being their demise. An example would be to order a single soldier to perform a particularly hazardous task, and repeat the said task until they meet their demise. The term originated during the Vietnam War and was most commonly used to mean the assassination of an unpopular officer of one's own fighting unit.

Yesterday and today:

104/05/07's from Colorado to DC.

That per CNN.

Fox weather Map for tomorrow.

Not one 100 degree temp (98 the highest :lol: ) on the map from OKC to DC.... :twisted:

When asked, in the Q/A session, about the buildup of CO2 from burning fossil fuels and resulting problems from climate change, Mr. Tillerson reckoned that while climate change from increased CO2 is real and causing problems, he was not so sure science was able to predict with any accuracy the coming effects with current models. He implied that, those “interested persons” with their fear mongering were exaggerating the effects, that problems such as sea level rise and the movement of food production areas due to drought,.....

And thank you, Pamela.

I had that article cued up to read and just deleted it.

bullshit.

Note to PM.

Climate change ...Peak Oil.....Market Manipulation....and we're Not EVEN talking about the synergistic interacting Positive Feedback Loops from same is not Only News...

it's the Truth that's being replaced by Silence...evil.... :twisted:

Because this Post is the Cutting Edge...and look at that quote again:

I’m often asked why people living in industrialized nations shouldn’t relent to hopelessness and party like hedonists as the world burns. My typical response is to ask how our lives would be different if we suddenly starting acting like hedonists.

Good July Morning...8D

The Good News for me is that I'm self referencing

Climate Change acceleration as I google for news

on

EIA 6 C degrees by 2035

;}

So I'm going to experiment on just dumping raw data here, like, once a day or so....;}

" It's also instructive to look at how much more global temperature would rise if solar, wind and hydro were not available at the levels estimated by EIA between 2008 and 2035 and coal were used instead.[7] The additional rise would be about 0.0016 C in the case of solar, 0.0126 C for wind, 0.0565 C for hydro, and 0.0706 C for all three of these alternatives combined.[8] These avoided temperature increases are significant and renewable energy installations will keep on giving beyond 2035, but they are a small component of the overall temperature equation, which by the same assumptions is predicted to rise 0.49 C from carbon added to the atmosphere over this period.

These limits to mitigation deliver a clear message: It's past time to begin adapting to climate change with the same effort and specificity that communities invest in preparing for a coming hurricane or flood. Many involved in climate policy see this, but many other policymakers do not. We need to be ready for melting ice, rising sea level, floods, droughts, weather extremes, and changing, stressed ecology. We need zoning and other policies to stop people from moving into low-lying coastal cities and areas that will be more prone to flooding and drought. We need to breed and genetically engineer crops that will handle extremes. We need to anticipate where water shortages will arise and build needed infrastructure or shift how the land is used. We need to protect and manage ecosystems with a view to how they will change and move, preserving corridors for migration and dispersion. We need to establish and maintain a global bank for the DNA and viable tissue of all known species and new species as they are described, as a safety net against extinction. Most of all, we need to fasten our political will to action now. Who knows? If we accept the realities of adaptation, maybe the picture will be so vivid, ugly, and expensive that we'll address mitigation too.

EIA 6 C 2035 Methane is a global warming pollutant like carbon dioxide – only much more potent. http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blog...s_needs_tighter_prod.html

5C and above – Highly unlikely nightmare scenario With a 5C rise, global average temperatures would be hotter than for 50m years. The Arctic region sees temperatures rise much higher than average – up to 20C – meaning the entire Arctic is now ice-free all year round. Most of the tropics, sub-tropics and even lower mid-latitudes are too hot to be inhabitable. The sea level rise is now sufficiently rapid that coastal cities across the world are largely abandoned. Above 6C, there would be a danger of "runaway warming", perhaps spurred by release of oceanic methane hydrates.

Since record amounts of water vapor can evaporate into air heated to record warm levels, it is not a surprise that incredible rains and unprecedented floods are resulting from this month’s near-record warm SSTs in the Gulf of Mexico.

Four days into the crisis, survivors were packed into the city’s Superdome, living next to overflowing toilets and rotting bodies as gangs of young men with guns seized the only food and water available. Perhaps the most memorable scene was a single military helicopter landing for just a few minutes, its crew flinging food parcels and water bottles out onto the ground before hurriedly taking off again as if from a war zone. In scenes more like a Third World refugee camp than an American urban centre, young men fought for the water as pregnant women and the elderly looked on with nothing. Don’t blame them for behaving like this, I thought. It’s what happens when people are desperate.

Chance of avoiding one degree of global warming: zero.

OK....That's It!.....;}

“Nashville has reached its hottest temperature on record…109 degrees at 314 pm. The previous all time record was 107 from July 27th and 28th of 1952.”

UPDATE: Meteorologist Dr. Jeff Masters has more all-time heat records:

109° Columbia, SC (old record 107° on two previous occasions) 109° Cairo, IL (old record 106° on 8/9/1930) 108° Paducah, KY (ties same on 7/17/1942 106° Chattanooga, TN (ties same on 7/28/1952) 105° Raleigh, NC (ties same on 8/21/2007 and 8/18/1988) 105° Greenville, SC (old record 104° 8/10/2007 although 106° was recorded by the Signal Service in July 1887) 104° Charlotte, NC (ties same on 8/9 and 10/2007 and 9/6/1954) 102° Bristol, TN (ties same on 7/28/1952-this site now known as `Tri-State Airport’) 109° Athens, GA. This is just 1° shy of the Georgia state record for June of 110° set at Warrenton in 1959.

Here is a great graphic via Capital Climate:

The U.S. surface temperature map from Unisys at 4 pm, June 29,2012, shows 100° temperatures stretching almost continuously from California eastward to the Carolinas.

NBC Meteorologist Bill Karins said on Friday , “We’ve never really seen a heat wave like this in the month of June.” Sadly, in a few decades this will just be considered a normal June (see below).
