New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is the top choice of Republicans if the party nominates its presidential candidate at a "brokered" convention this summer, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday. Mr. Christie is favored by 32 percent of Republicans, followed by former Govs. Sarah Palin of Alaska and Jeb Bush of Florida with 20 percent each, the poll found. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is fourth at 15 percent. Some conservatives are contemplating a so-called brokered Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., in August, in which none of the current candidates would have gained enough delegates to win the nomination and the party delegates would be free to nominate someone not in the primary race. Respondents in the Quinnipiac poll were asked to choose a candidate who's not in the current field. Mr. Christie has endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. The poll showed that 48 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters believe it would be bad for the party to engage in a brokered convention; 37 percent disagreed. Nationwide, the poll found that former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum leads the GOP field with 35 percent, followed by Mr. Romney with 26 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is third with 14 percent, followed by Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 11 percent. "Sen. Rick Santorum's lead among Republican voters and GOP-leaning independents is built on the votes of Republican men, tea party supporters and white evangelical Christians," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Santorum is riding the momentum wave from his trifecta of victories in Missouri, Colorado and Minnesota, but so far this year momentum from one week has been a much-overhyped asset by the time the next round of voting comes along." In November matchups, President Obama holds a slight lead over Mr. Santorum, 47 percent to 44 percent. The president leads Mr. Romney by 2 percentage points, 46 percent to 44 percent.

This only makes sense. The RINO Party is controlled out of the northeast,so who else would they pick other than a trusted northeastern politician? Yeah,JEB comes from a trusted insider Crime Family and Palin has done everything but jump naked through flaming circuis hoops to prove she can be trusted,but Christie is from what they see as the Motherland. IF that could be proven to be true,all I can say is "GOOOOO Christie!" This country NEEDS to have the GOP collapse because it is the only way we have any hope at all of ever becoming a 2 Party Nation again. Providing of course the new party that evolves manages to avoid letting the same scum that destroyed the Republican Party gain control over the new party. Which basically means that fewer than 10 percent of any of the former Rupublican elected officials are even allowed to register with the new party. They are Dims at heart,so let them be Dims in fact and stay with the Dim Party this time instead of going undercover and pretending to be what they're not.

The term brokered convention is misleading. A better term is contested convention. If no one has enough delegates to win on the first round, then the delegates are free to vote for whomever they want. A lot of things could happen. Ron Paul could support Romney in exchange for Romney promising to create a new gold commission with Ron Paul has chair. Or Santorum could support Gingrich in exchange for Gingrich naming Santorum his VP. Of course, a completely new candidate could emerge like Christi, Daniels or Bush. The 1976 GOP convention was contested -- neither Ford or Reagan walked into the convention with enough delegates to win. I hope that there is a contested convention and that someone like Mitch Daniels emerges, because the current group of candidates cannot beat Obama.
Notice how Dr. Paul rarely attacks Romney? There is 'something' there but not sure what. Deal for Ron or Rand in the works...perhaps.
Never swear "allegiance" to anything other than the 'right to change your mind'! It sure looks like it.
