Opinions/Editorials Title: Erik Rush - If I were Al-Qaeda, I'd strike now Once again, credit where credit is due: This column is the result of a conversation with a friend with whom I often discuss geopolitics and an exceptionally creepy waking experience I had. This may be one of the weirdest pieces I've written; let's just hope for our sakes that weird is all it is. Ever wake up with a popular song in your head? Maybe you heard it the night before, or went to sleep with the television on, or it was playing on the clock radio that woke you on a given morning? Well, I can't recall any of the above, but I awoke this morning with the following verse in my head: "If you're going to San-fran-cisco, Be sure to wear some radiation gear..." Like I said: Very creepy. Which got me to thinking about the aforementioned conversation. My friend and I got to talking about how a large-scale Al-Qaeda attack on American soil just prior to the midterm election would benefit the terrorist group and stateside far-Lefters immeasurably. Think about it. Like Spain, just before their election, trains are bombed on March 11, 2004. The Madrid attacks, which killed 191 people and wounded over 1700, were ostensibly to "protest" Spain's involvement in the Iraq war coalition. Spain, as we all know, folded like a castanet and the anti-war candidate was swept into office. Right now, we are set up perfectly for the selfsame scenario. Despite a growing economy, increased security (for all that could be done, suffice it to say we've not been attacked since 9/11), crippling of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, the capture of Saddam Hussein, Al-Zarqawi and dozens of other high-level players, the media and the Democrat public relations machine have just about succeeded in making America the villain in the global War on Terror. Yes, they have a particular passionate hatred for George Bush, but the underlying message is clear: We don't have the right to meet force with force. Not only do we lack the proactivity, intelligence and Special Ops capability Israel used to employ, but we've pressured that nation economically into a state of diminished readiness as well. So how does San Francisco figure into all this? Well, hopefully no farther than the strange early-morning firing of my neurons. But consider this: The Twin Towers in New York were attacked in 1993 and 2001 specifically because they were a symbol of American economic superiority something radical Islam hates. San Francisco is also a symbol of something radical Islam hates: Unbridled and celebrated debauchery. Granted that there is hypocrisy among terrorists; the 9/11 attackers were seen womanizing, drinking and gambling prior to their crimes, hardly the habits of devout Muslim boys. They probably wouldn't attack Las Vegas for similar reasons simply because a lot of their wealthy financial benefactors like to play there. Wouldn't want to inadvertently blow up a bunch of Saudi princes at the blackjack table to make their point, as this could drastically effect their future funding. Were an attack such as the Madrid train bombings (or worse) to occur prior to November 7, there is no doubt in my mind that those Americans who believe the common cold is the fault of Republicans would be quite satisfied that a "regime change" in America was in order. The Democrats and the media would support this conclusion with gusto. It is altogether possible however, that the American voters would not go the route of Spain. Perhaps they would become more enraged than after September 11, 2001; political correctness, moral relativity and their aversion to profiling might be pitched through the window like a rowdy barroom drunk. They might look to the President and collectively cry: "Whatever it takes. Enough is enough." Still, I can almost hear Nancy Pelosi announcing when the impeachment hearings will start which could conceivably happen anyway, terrorist attack or no. America is not Spain...or France. The terrorists would be shooting themselves-- and their allies in the RAT Party--in the foot were they to attempt a major terror offensive before Tuesday...MUD
