Sobriety can be achieved,but there is no cure for addiction. You just become an addict that is no longer drinking,doing drugs,smoking,overeating,etc,etc,etc.,and you will be that person for all of your life. You never beat it. All you can hope to do is keep it at bay. Nobody is an addict because they want to be an addict.
