Richard Stone and Malcolm Hoenlein, the chairman and the executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, recently visited convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard at Butner prison in North Carolina.

The two U.S. Jewish leaders talked with Pollard for two hours.

Following the meeting, the two expressed concern about Pollard's deteriorating health condition.

"We've returned with a renewed commitment to work for Pollard's release," the two wrote in a statement after the visit. "We see this as a serious humanitarian issue and as a matter of justice."

"Mr. Pollard suffers from multiple health challenges, which we believe add urgency for his release," the statement read.

Stone and Hoenlein noted that Pollard reiterated to them that he regretted his actions and that he expressed the desire to be released from prison, build a family and be an active citizen.

Activists for Pollard's release said that the visit was the first of a series of planned visits by American Jewish community leaders intended to express to importance and urgency they see in having Pollard released from incarceration by U.S. President Barack Obama.

Recently, calls for Pollard's release have increased amongst current and former U.S. officials as well as leaders of the American Jewish community.

Pollard was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1986 after being convicted of spying for Israel.

Sounds like you are judging me without knowledge about me.

Judging without knowing doesn't seem to bother you when you're doing the judging.

This is your forum, Stone - lead by example.

I probably do that sometimes. But I think I keep it pretty much based on actions or comments.

That would be an action. If you support murdering babies it is a persons duty to speak out against it.

We are called to judge righteous judgement.

If someone is in favor of abortion. You can make certain determinations about their character. That is based on their words and actions.

Proverbs 31:9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."

Are you defending the rights of the poor and needy?

People should help out those who are less fortunate. It just shouldn't be at the point of a gun and jail.

James 5:1-6 “Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.”

Too bad the poor aren't allowed into the 12 foot high fenced vineyards to reap anything left in the rows after they have been summer pruned and thinned. Even the deer are shot on sight.

Then they spray poison to prevent the fruit fly and moth infestation the rotting fruit attracts.

Most farmers work either directly or indirectly for corporations, which have an allergy to giving anything away, at least in a form that is not tax deductible.

My great Uncle was a farmer. He passed away a few weeks ago. He helped lots of people. He talked the talk and walked the walk. I'm not sure if he opened up his fields. Or if anyone would come in this day and age. But he was a generous person from what I understand.

I would use a dictionary to define work. I pretty much said that.

Here is a dictionary definition of work:

"1: activity in which one exerts strength or faculties to do or perform something:

a: sustained physical or mental effort to overcome obstacles and achieve an objective or result

b: the labor, task, or duty that is one's accustomed means of livelihood

c: a specific task, duty, function, or assignment often being a part or phase of some larger activity"

Doing work does not automatically produce income.

But nobody should make them do that, right? If they choose not to provide as, God has commanded, for the poor and some die as a result, are farmers then guilty of murder?

Hmmm - interesting.

Should work programs for the poor be run by the government or the private sector?

If programs should be privately run by people who freely choose to do so, but they are not adequate to fill the need, and people die, is anyone guilty of murder?

They would complain about their increased liability and higher insurance rates, and then get some county supervisor to sponsor a regulation against the practice.

Some produce farmers allow the Food Banks to send gleaning crews out to harvest the left overs, but most vineyards do not participate.
