A country music star made a special visit to Fort Hood Monday afternoon to thank troops for their service to the country. Gretchen Wilson, best known for her hit song "Red Neck Woman," signed autographs and met with troops from the 36th Engineer Brigade.
The soldiers are preparing to head out for a year long deployment to Iraq. Specialist Joseph Vezina said, "Every time you get an actor or entertainer to pass through and welcome and give you well wishes and support, it makes it a little more worth while. It reminds us of what our job is for."
Soldier Chad Hyatt said, "It was something to look forward to, to enjoy and take with us. Its really nice for her to come by and give us a farewell."
The soldiers will deploy within the next 48 hours.
