I have to save my money to pay the federal taxes due April 15th. Now, what do I do?
Buy the brushes needed and paint the bathroom. You can make up for it by getting off the internet. A paintbrush will only set you back about 12 bucks. Internet costs more. Pocket the difference.

The brush is for edging. Yes you need a roller too.
Now, the cost for the job is getting more pricey. If I postpone payment to the federal government on my income taxes because of this project, you are recommending that I go to prison. I am just one human being and can not be stretched between pricey REQUIRED home projects and the lawful REQUIRED payments to the fed. Something has to give. What is it?

You could provide specifications (through Stone told you what kind of brush to get), or I could use my own judgment and then you could complain that I got it wrong and "libtards are stupid".

I'm sorry to have to say this, but Stone has given you some bad advice. There is absolutely no need to paint the bathroom. Go down to the nearest dollar store. Locate the sunglasses rack, and from the myriad of lens colors available, simply select a pair, that, when worn by your wife, the color she sees while in the bathroom will be exactly what she is looking for (or "at" in this case). VERY IMPORTANT: Do NOT let her wear the glasses in the rest of the house, because if she does, she'll demand that you paint every other room in the house EXCEPT the bathroom.

. New chimney done by a contractor about a year and a half ago, now has white on the brick. I think it's leaching from the mortar. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. What is up?

I put newspaper around at various places (on the insulation, in the attic) above where the paint was doing this. Next time we have a good rain I'll climb up there and see if the paper has had any water on it. That was months ago, and many rains. Also, the day after I was up there climbing around I notice more paint flaking in the center of the living room ceiling. God damn. I think when I was climbing around I flexed the ceiling joists and the paint flaked off. Possible? Could the paint bubbling be from too high a humidity in the rooms at times? Should I get my ass up in the attic and check the paper? Why am I so eager to start projects and not finish them? Etc.

If so patch the roof first obviously. Just scrape the bad stuff off the ceiling and patch it. With some powdered sheetrock number 20. The 20 in the number is working time until it sets. You can use 45 or 90 also. You just have to wait longer between coats. You might use a bonding primer before patching. That will hold what is up there together better. I also like using a bonding primer when patching and you are down to the brown paper layer under the outside layer of paper on the drywall. That seems to prevent it from bubbling up later.
I have no idea what Saltillo Tile is. So I can't help you.

What is up? Did he use used brick? I think someone told me once it is lime coming out of the mortar joints. Like I said I notice this happens when you tuck point or pour in cold weather. There used to be two kinds of chemicals you could add to your mortar that would allow your concrete/mortar to be done down to about 20 degrees. One packet you would often get the white bleeding out. The other packet didn't seem to have that effect. The cheap pack was about a buck and the other one was maybe 2 bucks. It is good for an 80 pound bag of premixed mortar/concrete. The good stuff is called Rapid Set.
Actually if you really want the white spots off. You might try some Muratic Acid. Diluted of course. Just scrub it with one of those plastic scrub brushes.

Thanks for the info. I use old brick sometimes. The guys I used to work for were specialists in Restoration work. They used it more often then me. They were big time liberals. I liked them though. One time I was giving one them a ride in my Truck. Rush Limbaugh was on. It was tense. It was in the Clinton Era.

Yes. The contractor, most likely, did not flash the chimney correctly and so water coming down the roof does not deflect away from brickwork properly. Did he replace the actual chimney or just the brick veneer?

Paint doesn't adhere to wet surfaces. Existing paint, that once adhered, will flake if there is mold. You saw that a lot in old houses with old windows and plastered walls. The wall appeared to be dry but the old paint flaked off to the touch and the new paint wouldn't adhere to the surface despite scraping and priming. Guys who have been around the painting game for a while can actually smell the mold. I never could. But you are correct about actually seeing it. I'd say that the probability that I am correct is 75-80% tho...

I just had some sheet rock patched and the plaster guy recommended rolling on a coat of Guardz before he textured the wall.

And don't say elbow grease. LOL. Happens to me all the time, because I'm constantly working on cars, building rear-ends and front suspensions, etc. It's my "therapy," as it were... Ok, if you have clumps of greasy crap on your floor, scrape them up with your typical paint-scraper. Sweep them up, and toss into the nearest garbage can. Then, on the grease stains themselves, you can use carb-cleaner or brake- cleaner, in aerosol cans that you can buy at your local car-parts place (I think carb-cleaner is slighly more effective, but either will work). The cans are expensive- $7-8 per can, typically. BUT.... the solvent tends to be very aggressive, attacking the grease, allowing you to simply wipe up the puddle with paper towels. Repeat as necessary. If it's *really* stubborn stuff, that's been there a long time, you can use a scrub-brush after the majority is gone, to get a completely uniform appearance. If you're *really* cheap, you can use laquer thinner (you can buy a 2-quart can for about $4), pour small puddles on the grease stains, and then use a scrub- brush to work the stuff out of the pores of the concrete, and then wipe up with paper towels. Either way will get you a nice clean surface again. Now Freddie, don't say I'm not willing to contribute, especially on a subject like this, that can be a real problem, and has *real* answers. ;) Have a good evening. :)
