The Democratic Party Abandons
Occupy Wall Street Movement

House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi has rescinded the warm, wet kiss that she and her Democratic party offered the Occupy Wall Street last year as she seeks to stave off a disaster as OWS begins to devour its own namely, its progressive and liberal backers.
Speaking at an event hosted by POLITICO, Rep. Pelosi stumbled her way through a question about the continued relevance of the Occupy Wall Street movement, eventually getting to her point which was to suggest that OWS is on its own.
as opposed to the Tea Party, which was practically a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Republican party, we don't really have much of a connection with the Occupy [movement]. In fact, they probably have some sentiments that overlap between the two," said Pelosi.
This stands in stark contrast to statements made by Pelosi, President Obamas campaign advisor David Plouffe and other high ranking Democrats in October of last year in which the party seemed to embrace the OWS movement and its message. Pelosi herself said of the protesters in October, God bless them. Its young, its spontaneous and its going to be effective, Pelosi concluded at the time.
The Democratic party fears that the Occupy protesters have begun to go off the reservation, given their apparent readiness to protest Democrats and Democratic politicians as well as Republicans. A NATO/G8 summit in Chicago scheduled for this May is likely to be the target of many anti-capitalist, anti-globalist protesters including the OWS crowd. The Democrats fear an embarrassment there should they openly embrace the protesters that will not be doing much embracing of Democrats in return.
Stories in December that indicated OWS will come into conflict with police in Charlotte (which has banned camping in public places, seen as a direct shot across OWS bow) during the Democratic National Convention have also increased tensions between Democrats and OWS.
