Leadership: A spokesman says the president "can't wait for Congress to act" and promised that he's "going to take action." This is the president who was "ready to rule" in 2008. Is he an elected chief executive or an emperor?

In November 2008, shortly after Barack Obama was elected president, Valerie Jarrett, co-chair of his transition team, appeared on "Meet the Press." She told host Tom Brokaw that "Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one."

Shouldn't someone who had reached the political heights that Jarrett had reached know that kings rule but presidents are elected to serve and are accountable to Congress, the courts and the voters?

One would think that she and the rest of the administration are aware of a president's legal limitations, but simply aren't interested in respecting them.

A little more than three years after Jarrett declared Obama's majesty, his spokesman Jay Carney warned on the day of the Iowa caucuses that "if Republicans choose the path of obstruction rather than cooperation, then the president is not going to sit here . .. he's going to take the actions that he can take using his executive authority."

Within a day, Obama made good on the threat. On Wednesday, he bypassed the congressional approval process and named Richard Cordray as head of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The appointment, made while the Senate is in a pro forma session and not in recess, came after that chamber blocked Cordray's confirmation last month.

Not only is Obama trampling precedent that says recess appointments are to be done only after the Senate has been out of session for 10 days or more, he's also trying to circumvent legislation.

As noted by Mark Calabria of the Cato Institute, the Dodd-Frank bill that created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau requires the CFPB's authority to remain with the Treasury secretary until the CFPB director is "confirmed by the Senate." Cordray still lacks that confirmation.

Subscribe to the IBD Editorials Podcast Apparently feeling like a gambler on a roll, Obama followed up the Cordray appointment by placing Sharon Block, Terence Flynn and Richard Griffin on the National Labor Relations Board. Of little concern to Obama are the wishes of the Senate Republicans, who had blocked these appointments, which they have the right to do within our system.

Clearly our American arrangement of checks and balances written into the Constitution is an impediment to this president. Before Carney made his statement Tuesday, Obama himself said in October that "we can no longer wait for Congress to do its job. ... So where Congress won't act, I will."

He, of course, is talking more about the House, which voters turned over to the Republicans in 2010, than the Senate, which is still in Democrats' hands.

The president might not like it that he no longer has a Democratic majority in the House to help him ram through legislation. But he should stay within the constitutional obstructions that the opposition party is expected to place in front of him.

In Wednesday's Cleveland speech when he announced the CFPB and NLRB appointments, Obama said anyone who "plays by the rules can get ahead." Yet the president is playing outside the rules and pretending he's doing it as a favor for the country. His motives, though, are clear. He wants to wield power that exceeds what the Constitution delegated to the president.

Maybe First Lady Michelle Obama wasn't acting when she said on a kids television sitcom that she enjoyed being called "your excellency." Maybe she was speaking for her husband, too.

This question, if answered HONESTLY, will sort the goats from the sheep.

Can ANY AMERICAN who actually LOVES AMERICA really defend the WAY that this insane commie monster and his regime DOES things?

I mean EVEN IF he is doing things that you like, are you really OK with the way this insane commie monster DOES it?

Because to my mind no AMERICAN can defend this LAWLESS son of a bitch.

He was ELECTED PRESIDENT NOT F' ING KING.

I'd DESPISE him and his agenda even MORE if he had CLAIMED to be a CONSERVATIVE.

I know that most libTURD whores have no honor or intellectual HONESTY.

I bet that they won't DIRECTLY answer my question.

Your own signature answers your question. oBUMa is merely the most obvious symptom of a problem that is endemic to our current government; absolute corruption.

That does NOT mean I agree with anything oBUMa does. In fact, I absolutely despise everything he is, everything he stands for. He is a coward and a crook. Worse, he not only lacks any sense of moral core, he's a willing shill for the elites.

Sadly, he continues the agenda that has been pushed by every POTUS since Bush-I.

Which leads me to my main point: every MSM-endorsed GOP candidate is simply another puppet, bought-and-paid-for.

At this point, there are only two future scenarios which will play out for the country: political revolution via the ballot-box, or real revolution via the ammo-box.

In the first scenario, the only viable candidate which represents a rejection of the corruption in government, is Ron Paul.

If this latest example of political revolution fails, the second scenario becomes a certainty. Even if Ron Paul wins, there is still the chance of civil war. But if he loses, it is assured.

Oh, I know you'll bark and spit, saying nothing... Whatever.

But as you have observed, while oBUMa deserves condemnation for being a willing participant in this mess, he is not the problem, but merely a symptom of the sickness which permeates our society.

No it does NOT. It only answers my question in regards to myself. Which should be kind of obvious.

the question is;

Who are you supporting now that Bachman is out?

Here is what the leader of our cult said.

Ron Paul on Cordray appointment: ‘The president is not a dictator or a king’ By Felicia Sonmez

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) on Thursday became the latest presidential hopeful to criticize President Obama’s recess appointment of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, saying in a statement that Obama “has acted in clear disregard of the Constitution” and “must be called to account for his actions.”

“It is disappointing that a former constitutional law professor does not understand that the president is not a dictator or a king who can simply ignore the Constitution whenever he feels frustrated by the system of checks and balances wisely put in place by our Founders,” Paul said in a statement.

Paul added that he has opposed “unconstitutional power grabs” by presidents of both parties and argued that that consistency makes him “the only Republican candidate with the credibility and the record” to challenge Obama.

“If the president insists on behaving in such a cavalier manner with regard to requirements set forth by the Constitution, then action by Congress may become necessary to rein in his flagrant contempt for the rules,” he said.

Paul’s statement Thursday follows one by Mitt Romney on Wednesday. The former Massachusetts governor charged that Obama’s recess appointment “represents Chicago-style politics at its worst and is precisely what then-Senator Obama claimed would be ‘the wrong thing to do.’ ”

Reactions to the Cordray appointment have largely fallen along party lines – even Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who was one of three Senate Republicans to vote in favor of the 2012 Dodd-Frank legislation that established the watchdog agency, said in a statement Wednesday that she was “deeply troubled” by Obama’s recess appointment of Cordray.

So far, only one prominent Republican – Sen. Scott Brown (Mass.) – has come out in favor of the recess appointment. Brown, of course, is facing Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren in what’s expected to be one of the most competitive Senate races of the year; Warren was Obama’s initial choice to head the CFPB.

At stake in the Cordray debate is not simply the matter of his nomination or even of the jurisdiction of the consumer watchdog agency but rather the manner in which Obama made his recess appointment Wednesday. By making the appointment during a recess of less than 10 days, Obama made a move that has been unprecedented in the past decade – and one that Republicans say could open to the door to similar actions by the Obama White House and others in the future.

Democrats have countered that by holding “pro-forma” sessions every three days throughout the winter recess, congressional Republicans have essentially moved to block permanently any recess appointments by the White House.
