FREDERICKSBURG, Ohio— Members of a close knit Amish community gathered Saturday night to mourn the death of a 15-year-old girl, who was shot to death under circumstances that are shrouded in mystery. David Zuercher, a friend of the family of 15-year-old Rachel Yoder, told Fox 8 News, "Just total disbelief and shock. I just couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke, that it was not so." Relatives initially believed that Rachel suffered a head injury while on her way home from a Christmas party for employees at a produce shop. The girl was discovered on the ground near her buggy Thursday night at the family farm in Fredericksburg, but when she was flown to Akron City Hospital, doctors discovered the teenager had been shot in the head. Authorities said the girl's horse had instinctively galloped home after the shooting, and Wayne County authorities traced a trail of blood from the Yoder farm back to Holmes County's Salt Creek Township, and the intersection of County Road 229 and Township Road 614. "To think that somebody would do something like that to a sweet, innocent young lady," said Zuercher, "I mean, she didn't have a care in the world to anybody, and no problems to anybody." There are several theories about the shooting, including the possibility that the Amish buggy was targeted, or that Rachel was accidentally shot by a hunter. "Somebody unloading a weapon, coming home from muzzle loading, hunting or something like that," said Zuercher. The Yoder family's grief is compounded by the fact that Rachel's mother, 54-year-old Mary Yoder, was killed in September, when the van she was riding in was hit by a flatbed truck. "Oh, it's terribly difficult. The impact on the family is just unimaginable, said Zuercher. "I mean, the hurt will never go away." The death of Rachel Yoder is being investigated as a homicide; however, investigators are not sure if it was an accident or not. Anyone with information on what happened is asked to call the sheriff's office in Holmes or Wayne counties.

How in the HELL can anyone stop wanton, random murder?
A few changes to existing laws might make a difference.... stiffer penalties for committing certain crimes or committing the crime using a firearm, bladed weapon or exploding device..... Sometimes the old ways are just so much better than the new "Liberalized" ways....

Hunter said his department traced a trail of blood along the road for about three-eighths of a mile into Holmes County in an area of farms and rolling hills. Zimmerly said the gun-cleaner's family came forward and his neighbors reported hearing a shot at about the time the girl was wounded. The man had fired the gun in the air about 1.5 miles from where Yoder was shot, Zimmerly said. State investigators were checking the rifle for a ballistics match, he said. "In all probability, it looks like an accidental shooting," Zimmerly said. No charges have been filed. Yoder was born in nearby Mount Eaton and attended the Old Order Amish Church, The (Wooster) Daily Record reported. She is survived by her father, 10 brothers and sisters, 26 nieces and nephews and two grandparents. Hunter said earlier there was no indication the shooting was related to a rash of beard-cutting attacks against Amish men in a feud over church discipline. Still, the mystery of the shooting in the wake of the beard-cutting attacks had left the Amish shaken and "on pins and needles," Zimmerly said. Zimmerly said he informed the Yoder family that the shooting appeared to be accidental. "Obviously, that makes them feel a lot better than if someone might have been targeting the Amish or (if it was) a random shooting murder," he said. Gun violence in Amish communities is rare but not unheard of. A man shot 10 schoolgirls, killing five, inside a one-room schoolhouse five years ago in Nickel Mines, Pa. OK, so how can society fix murder even if it is not "wanton" as I suggested before? CZ82 is more insane than any of his concepts about new laws.

The old laws are the best, an eye for an eye!!!! If you make the punishment worse than the crime committed a lot of crime would just fade away.... People would be too damn scared to commit crimes unless they are so fracking stupid!!!! (I.E. born at the very bottom of the Leftards gene pool) ..... They would actually have to think about what they are doing instead of just doing it and figuring out how best to beat the wrap..... which actually isn't that hard nowadays with the current Liberalized ones, where nobody is guilty of doing what they did.....(Can't have potential voters in prison where they are ineligible to vote)......

I'm not begging for more laws, they are already in place except that in most cases the punishment doesn't fit the crime.... Al you have to do is modify what is existing..... Now in a case like this what can you really do to the guy, if it actually went down like they say..... I find it very unlikely that she was accidently killed by him at that distance with that weapon..... impossible ballistics for a muzzle loader....... Now.... Say someone did target her what should the guy get as a sentence????? A). 10 YEARS B). 20 YEARS C). LIFE D). DEATH PENALTY Before you answer think about how little time some are spending in prison for that exact offense, murder.... right now!!!!! And it's because the prison system is too full..... pretty lame excuse for letting someone slide with a lesser sentence than they really deserve.... Which brings me to another point, why is our prison system so full, not enough punishment deterent to keep them from committing the crime in the first place would be the starting place..... And who makes up about 1/2 of the current prison population..... Illegals!!!! Why not "Force" their governments into taking them back so that justice can be served on those who really deserve it instead of getting a free pass!!!!!!!

I didn't say eliminate, that will never happen..... what I meant was greatly reduce..... So why is it that in this country we have more people in prison (about 750 per 100,000 of population...Germany is about 90 per 100,000) than most other countries in the world!!!!! Is it because certain actions that are offenses here aren't offenses over there??? Is it because they don't care about who commits crimes??? Or.... is it because their penalties are much worse than ours and are better at deterring crime?????

You don't think that some people will think twice before doing something extremely stupid if they "know" they will never see the light of day again if they commit certain crimes????...... (Are the people in this country that stupid????). Lets say your brother has a bag a lollipops and you want some but don't want to ask for some, so you think stealing them would be cool..... Which scenario would deter you the most from stealing them: A). You know your Mom would say "Don't you do that you know that's not nice" OR B). You know your Mom would wear your ass out and ground you for a month.... Which punishment would make you think twice or maybe three times before stealing your brothers lollipops?????

Not completely but somewhat. Here I will prove it. If murder was legal would there be more or less murders? But like you said Buck, it will never be completely reduced. Even if no additional deterrent is acheived by harsher penalties. At least they would receive harsher punishment.
