Title: No, Really, Ron Paul Cannot Win

Andrew Sullivan, following up his (Republican primary) endorsement of Ron Paul, argues today that campaign reporters and pundits who say he can’t win the nomination are all wrong: We were told one thing after his extensive riff last week on the paranoia around Iran's nuclear weapons, his defense of blowback theory in our encounters with Jihadist terrorism, and his open denunciation of the greatest mistake of his own party in the last decade, the Iraq war (where every other candidate is silent). We were told this ended his candidacy, that there was no constituency for this in the current GOP, that he was throwing it all away, that he has, as the Ailes memo clearly has it, zero chance of getting the nomination.

Well: now he's ahead in Iowa. And, yes, it remains a long, long, long shot. But you know what?

Yes he can.

No, he really can’t.

It would be nearly impossible to imagine the Republican Party nominating a candidate who spent years and years publishing a racist newsletter and has deep associations with the fringe far right.

(Here he is speaking to the John Birch Society on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.)

It would be even more impossible to imagine the Party nominating a candidate who favors total withdrawal from world affairs and takes a Chomsky-ite line on American power. The notion that the Party might nominate a candidate who does both these things is totally preposterous.

Now, Andrew is framing his argument as an argument against a zero chance.

Well, sure. It’s not zero. Paul could win the nomination. It’s also possible that Democrats will follow the Schoen–Caddell plan of nominating Hillary Clinton over President Obama, and Obama will flip to the GOP, and Republicans will nominate Obama, and the general election will be Clinton-Obama II: This Time It’s for All the Marbles.

It’s possible Newt Gingrich will announce the result of a secret experiment he undertook to resurrect Ronald Reagan through saved brain DNA, implanted in the body of a dinosaur created through similar methods, and that Reaganosaurus will rampage through the Republican field, capture the nomination and, in a climactic debate with Obama, devour him in a single bite.

But reporters have good reason to ignore possibilities such as those or a Ron Paul nomination.

Paul’s supporters seem to believe that the media ignoring him is the only thing keeping him from challenging for the Party nomination.

More likely, it’s the only thing that’s allowed his candidacy to progress to this point.

If more people actually understood the full scope of Paul’s fringe-right views, a huge portion of his support would peel off.

When Pontius Pilate asked Jesus if he was the son of God. Jesus told him that something like "you said it".

Jesus told him that something like "you said it".

Really? Maybe you can get your ol' pal, TLBSHOW, to confirm that. Jesus of Nazareth was rumoured to be the "King of the Jews" as I already discussed because of the Romans.

Judas Iscariot turned Jesus in to the local Jewish rabbis (Sadducees) after the Sermon on the Mount for the claim (which was a lie) ... Jesus of Nazareth NEVER claimed to be a king of anything.

I get the feeling YOU and Mad Dog, don't know shit.

AND, you vile pus filled CREEP, MANY of these quotes PREDATE The CHRIST'S PASSION. Which means you vile pus filled CREEP, that the false charges of JESUS CLAIMING that he was KING of the Jews, came LONG after the CHRIST was declared and accepted as the "KING OF KINGS".

YOUR denial of this basic belief of CHRISTIANITY shows you to be nothing but a vile pus filled CREEP FRAUD.

the BIBLE is FULL of references to the "crown rights" of the MESSIAH the CHRIST.

That is because of the various Hebrew and Greek interpretations you have read, called the Holy Bible. Messiah is the end-time king, descended from King David and expected to redeem Israel; only a handful of early "Christians" (prior to 200AD) identified Jesus as the Messiah. (Greek: Christos)

An actual CHRISTIAN, knows this basic fact.

You have stated no FACT but moved your idea that KING OF KINGS is a new name. I wonder if we get to explore new and startling ideas from a common mutt.

Bob- I have to share something with you. :) I have a revelation this morning about these websites and the posters- and how we can show them God's love.

As I have told you- I have had a group of relentless , nasty cyber stalkers for years. I have never met any person who has been as vicious and vile and nasty to me- as these people have been to me.

Last night I find out that one of them is in prison. It is actually a high profile case- and so there is a whole bunch of information out there, in the media, on this person's background and life.

Reading last night about this person reminded me of the terrible, nasty, vicious horrible bizarre things done to me. I always knew she was pretty sick.. I din't realize how deeply troubled this person was. I just engaged in the fight, to defend myself from her words.

I feel so foolish now. I am left wondering if I could have been kind, if I could have reached out to help her... if I could have found some common ground to help her find a straighter path. Perhaps I could have- perhaps not.. but the truth is, I never tried- because I was so angry and offended.

And I am left wishing I had shown this person more mercy, in our exchanges. Her life and my life, growing up, were pretty similar- and yet our lives now are completely different.

There- but for the grace of God- goes I. It is so true.

She is going to die in prison.

Where did our lives take a turn? I have God. She does not know how to find Him.

I am left praying for her- even tho she has committed many crimes- and some against me. Real crimes, Bob.

I am praying for her for mercy. I see her as the broken child- who Jesus died for- who just never accepted the free gift of salvation.

I wish she had. I wish I could turn back time. I am going to be corrected on this issue- and apply it to talking to people online.

I pray for her victims, of course- because people have actually died at her hand.. and I pray for her. Life can get pretty serious- and , yes- even from connections made online- in these forums.

People, without God's hope- online or not- are so broken and lost and miserable.

I am going to remain in prayer for the people on this very site. More kindness, more mercy, more love, more joy, more healing.

God, please bring healing to the people of this website. All of them! In Jesus name I pray.

Amen.

Do you deny Jesus was/is the Christ?

The way you think he was/is? No, he proved the same, too. No one has seen him come out of the clouds strumming a harp or wearing a halo for just about ever.

Your problem is all about the eschatological writings contained in the version of the Holy Bible that you read or believe in. And no one can solve your problem but yourself.

Be careful of your answer. It has eternal consequences.

Again, you believe in the "end of the world" at some point in time. It isn't unique among so-called conservative, Evangelical "Christians" swearing "fire&brimstone" either. Your ideas are just popular based upon the myths you believe in (and repeated at your Sunday services) and largely borrowed from Iranian Zoroastrian thoughts and principles from about 4000 BCE. That was before Judaism (2000 BCE) and the covenants of organized Christian (200 CE) mythology or even Muslims (500 CE).

Sorry, pal but you guys can discuss KING OF KINGS all you want, but there are no documented sources about the idea at all other than via myth.... and it isn't even contained in the Bible. For Christians, the idea of a "Holy Trinity" doesn't even exist in the Bible.

OK, Christian mystic, tell us how Abraham borrowed the idea of a "ONE GOD" theory known as monotheism as the Jews didn't practice that idea until he created spread the word. Surely you know. And of course, you know that the clans of Jews were exiled to Babylon (~600 BCE) from Jerusalem, right? They didn't even have a pot to piss in but were smart enough to adopt Zoroastrian thought and principles and eventually came back to Jerusalem (~500 BCE) with the borrowed ideas.

Poor ol' Abraham and Sarah must be shaking in their harps up there in heaven for your own renouncement of historical FACT.

I take it you are back to talking about the "king" quote.

I never said Jesus said he was king. I just pointed out that when asked by pilate if he was the son of God. Jesus simply said you said I was. Or however it was phrased.

So just because Jesus didn't specifically say he was the "king" doesn't mean that he isn't.

He never denied he was king either.

He is depicted as sitting at the right hand of God in a future "kingdom" of heaven.

That is my take.

We were discussing that Jesus was/is a King or a KING OF KINGS or something like that; it has nothing to do with the metaphor of a "kingdom" or "my kingdom" as you attempt to point out. If you were traveling to say, England and an indigenous British subject asked you, "where did you come from?" it is possible to answer properly in the possessive form, "my country is America." But that doesn't mean you own or rule or are the President.

Why is it important? Because of Mad Dog's earlier rebuttal using his own phrases that are incorrect and worthless about his self-proclaimed Christianity side tracking the major focus of his dialog; that he (Mad Dog) is only subservient to Jesus and not a government. But, Jesus NEVER said he was/is a KING. Mad Dog and YOU have distorted FACTS (even from your own citations) to prove he said so. Both of you are wrong.

Jesus of Nazareth is discussing, "PARADISE"; of "not of this world." It is a mythological time/place/setting far removed from the Earth and the chains that bind us from reaching PARADISE. All of your rants have proven nothing but that YOU and Mad Dog don't understand the simplest of Jesus' parables.

All of this KING and KING OF KINGS crapola came from hearsay, movies, rants, gossip and BS.

An ordinary Brit wouldn't say welcome to my kingdom. The King of England would say that though.

What are you saying? Are you saying that "kingdoms" were the proper word for "city-state" governments of the time? And now, some two thousand years later, people use "kingdom" for the same or similar idea of expression? No, they use the term "country."

Jesus NEVER said, "welcome to my kingdom" anyway. He talked about heaven or more appropriately, PARADISE and how to escape the Sadducees' distorted interpretation of the Tanakh. It was all delivered on Jesus' Sermon of the Mount.

But here is another passage confirming that Jesus is king.

Zechariah 9:9

King James Version (KJV)

9Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

I'm not going to quote it. But I'm sure you've read about Jesus instructing his follower to go get the ass for him that he rode in on.

He is not a KING. He NEVER said he was a KING. It is misquoted and worthless to adopt such an expression as it distorts the entire focus of what Jesus was attempting to convey. The only idea of "King" was from the Roman guard with, "King of the Jews."

You think he was a fraud and a liar. So of course you don't think he was king. So your opinion is worthless. Since I've already showed you from multiple places in scripture that point out that he is in fact King.

You keep repeating a singular passage from Zechariah as though it is profound and relevant to the point of view that Jesus NEVER claimed to be a KING. The Book of Zechariah is in the Old Testament, circa 500 BCE. Even the Jews discount it as a prophesy towards Jesus later arrival circa 32 CE.

Not true at all. I am saying YOU and Mad Dog are frauds and liars. Jesus NEVER claimed to be a KING.

You're making a fool of yourself Buck. You should go talk about something you know about.

Matthew 21:5-7 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

From your post 64. You're really confused today.

Do you deny Jesus was/is the Christ?

The way you think he was/is? No, he proved the same, too.

Jesus NEVER claimed to be a KING.

That is irrelevant. I don't go around telling people I am a human. But I still am.

Your recitation of a passage in the book Matthew is a regurgitation of a passage in the book of Zechariah. Jesus NEVER said he was a KING.

Jesus telling them to get the ass. Proves he was king. You don't have to tell someone what you are. I don't go around telling everyone I have blue eyes.

Jesus NEVER claimed to be a KING. He knew however that he pissed offed a lot of the Sadducees and might as well enjoy a comfort ride towards his own fate; those Jews were nasty people, oh yeah, they still are.
