Title: Captive U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl 'recaptured by the Taliban after three days on the run following daring escape'

A U.S. soldier held by the Taliban since 2009 has been recaptured after he went on the run for three days.

Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl's daring escape failed when a manhunt was launched in Pakistan to find him, Taliban commanders said.

He is now facing his third Christmas in captivity.

Sgt Bergdahl has been a prisoner of the Taliban since his capture on June 30, 2009, in Afghanistan.

Since then, he has appeared in a least five Taliban propoganda videos, one of which was released in May.

He is the only known U.S. soldier to be captive of the Taliban.

Sgt Bergdahl, who launched a daring escape attempt, was reported to have adopted the Muslim name Abdullah, according to his captors

His captors found him three days later hiding in a trench, covered with leaves and virtually naked, according to the report.

The sources described Sgt Bergdahl, of Hailey, Idaho, fighting 'like a boxer' when found.

Quoting a Taliban source, The Daily Beast reported that Sgt Bergdahl told his captors that he wanted to find civilian villagers who would help him and notify the U.S..

But that hope proved futile as villagers had long since fled Pakistan's North Waziristan region because of the conflict.

Now he is back in captivity, Sgt Bergdahl is once more restrained at night and being moved frequently to avoid detection by U.S. forces.

Drone strikes have killed several senior militants in the area he is being held and sources say the Taliban is ready to make a deal to release the soldier.

A source told The Daily Beast: 'There's a fear that a dronecould hit the golden [goose].'

Colonel Tim Marsano, an Idaho National Guard spokesman based in Boise, was quoted in the report and has spoken with Sgt Bergdahl's family.

'There is certainly a lot of new information in that article that was news to the Sgt Bergdahl family,' he said. 'Any mother would be glad to hear that her son is alive and well at this point.'

May Captain Humbert Roque (Rocky) Versace and Colonel James (Nick) Rowe's spirits be with him in this time of hardship and deep stress for this Paratrooper.

And may he be able to escape again, this time successfully.

Rocky was in a class all by himself.

How freaking ironic is it that he planned on resigning his commission once his tour in VN was up,and becoming a Mary Knoll priest? That pack were/are bigger communists than the Soviet Politburo. I don't think he would have lasted long before they booted him out of the order.

"You sign up with the military."

Sneakypete was in Special Forces, a special breed of men. I recomend a book called 'Five Years to Freedom.'

What this thread is about is something that Nick Rowe designed the Survival Resistance Escape and Evasion course (SERE) Course to help American fighting men endure and understand the sort of horror the man this thread is started on is enduring.

He is not being treated like a soldier in captivity. He is not being treated with respect for his military affiliation, rank, culture and background. They are trying to break him apart and build him into as close a copy to themselves as they can.

Few can endure what he is enduring. What Pete and I see here (I have been through SERE) is someone who is surviving a situation that kills most men.

Nick knew Rocky would of lived had he had had SERE training. Rocky was special, and didn't bend a micro millimeter from directly and intensely resisting the extreme psychological torture and brainwashing he was subjected to. They eventually beat him and took him out and shot him. Nick was luckier.

He had been able to maintain a cover story that he was an engineering officer and bent just enough to keep them from killing him or destroying his belief in himself, his country, and most importantly his spirit.

Jane Fonda in fact was the one who nearly got Nick killed at the end of his five years of horror as a prisoner of the national Liberation Front in what was then South Vietnam.

When she was visiting the North they showed her a picture of Nick and she correctly IDed him as a Special Forces officer. It is a miracle he was able to endure what they did to him in revenge for his deception and was able to kill the man guarding him as he was being moved during pressure from U.S. conventional forces and escape.

This is why Jane Fonda is so deeply loathed beyond belief in Special Forces culture. When Nick was assassinated as a Colonel in the Philippines by communist insurgents I was at Fort Bragg and witnessed what it did to people there.

They had to use the Fayetteville and Military Police to guard against SF and other soldiers from going AWOL to that part of the world to exact revenge and to keep a lid on the chaos this created at Fort Bragg.

Special Forces is different than conventional military. We were always the red headed step child of the Army. It was never a career move to go SF. SF is never about public glory and ego. Accomplishing the mission and being left alone is fine with everyone concerned in SF.

If SF components go to a foreign land and are successful in their missions, the locals get the credit and glory and SF stays in the shadows and quietly leaves never getting credit for what was done publicly.

I am serious about the Book by Nick Rowe, it is well worth reading by anyone.

Pete and I know that war is not a pretty thing and people who get into SF never do it for the glory.

They do it because they deeply believe in something and are commuted to a sense of purpose unique to them.

Go to Netflix, search for the National Geographic special on Special Forces. It will give you an idea of what I am talking about and in my opinion is a must see.

First Sergeant Laine Morris with the same flash under the unit crest on his beret I wore, that of the 19th SF Group was a member of my first A Team in Utah. He is interviewed in that special by the way.

That is the best information I can tell you if you want to understand Pete and others in SF and the situation this man in the story in the header.

It's right there toward the end of Five Years to Freedom by James (Nick) Rowe.

She was shown the picture and she was rubbing elbows with the North Vietnamese and they did not explain why they wanted Nick IDed, they just showed her the picture wanting to know who he was and his name, and they provided the role he played.

Loose lips sink ships, and get men like Nick killed. She was a tool, but this showed how much of an arrogant dupe she was.

No truer words were ever spoken, but no type of training would have saved Rocky given the circumstances. He was NOT going to bow or bend, regardless. Rocky just didn't have any backup in him when it came to principles. He WAS what we all should aspire to be.

The few that do never last long. The typical SF soldier of the 60's cared about what his peers thought of him,and didn't give a rabid rats ass what anybody else though. I don't know for sure how it is now,but I suspect this plays a huge part in the selection process when it comes time to fill out one of the "High Speed" teams. The pros stay silent and let others do all the prancing around in public.

I didn't even tell anybody about being in SOG for 20 years or so after getting out of the army.

I'm not worried about Jane. And they did not tell her anything but show him a picture and asked her to identify him which she then complied with. She should of known better then to share information about prisoners, thus ignorance is no excuse when one does something stupid like that, so she deserves flack for doing that. She is indeed very lucky then Captain Rowe was able to kill his guard and escape though. Count on that.

Dec. 16 (Bloomberg) — The son of Libya’s top general, Khalifa Hiftar, has been kidnapped and is being held by a militia at Tripoli International Airport, the general said today.

Belgassim Hiftar, 30, was kidnapped as he drove to visit his brother Saddam, who was in a Tripoli hospital after being wounded by gunfire yesterday, said his father.

“My son is kidnapped, he is being held at the airport,” the general said, speaking to reporters in his fortified compound in southern Tripoli. “We have been making phone calls with them this evening, I don’t know what they want.”

The alleged kidnapping comes on the eve of a visit to Libya by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, who said in Turkey today that the U.S. must give Libya more time to gain control of its militias.

The ONLY people enjoying Communsism right now are the Top 1%.

In general, you are correct. When speaking to the west specifically, you are incorrect. What the ruling elites in the west are enjoying is fascism, which is communism's more mature brother and is maybe 10% less evil than communism because it is slightly less oppressive because it does allow a middle class. True, that middle class is totally dependent on the approval of the government, but it IS there.

Still, the middle class and their less unfortunate brethren the laborers (or "civilans" as cops call them) don't enjoy that form of government as much as they suffer under it. Even the middle class aren't free. They just live better and mostly don't know the difference.

Can't read books anymore.

Have you given any thought to buying a Kindle from Amazon.com or a similar book reader? You can download books on them and then increase the font size to a level you can see.

The Safari (by Apple) web browser may work for you, too. It has a feature called a "reading list" that allows you to save web pages to it and then read them without all the ads or other clutter that may interfere with large fonts.

It also has a feature that allows you to show your favorite/most visited sites as icons when you go to bookmarks. Icons with LARGE letters showing the page name.

Safari is also a lot quicker than IE and Firefox. Be aware there is a learning curve to learn how to bookmark web pages, though.

WOW! Speaking of quick,my new desktop really smokes! I click on a link and it's open before I can get my finger off the send button. Blink of a eye quick. Dual core Intel 3.4 GB processor with 16 GB of RAM.

Now,if I can figure out a way to play old DOS games using WIN7,I'm in business!

Your desire to engage in defamation of me for my fair and legal vote speaks of your own lack of respect for our system of government where votes are made on a secret ballot to protect people from backlash lie that you express here.

I am not voting for Obama this time around, and I support Ron Paul as I did in the primary season last election. I refuse to have my nose rubbed in my honest choice for president the last election, and I don't confuse anger and disagreement with another with how I feel about them personally.

In fact, if I did, I would have stopped dialogging with you long ago.

As for the religion question, I respect your right to worship as you chose, and in fact would defend to death the right for any religious group to exist and flourish.

You also speak to me as if I do not know the Bible or the Christian religion when in fact I most certainly do know it quite well. In fact i have purposely taken a class in Bible study as well as one on the Koran and make the effort to learn about and understand other religions as well.

I feel some religions focus too much on the management and control of culture and people. I am concerned with religion as it pertains to the sanctity and respect for all life, thus my personal commitment to Goddess based religion.

You may not like this and you obviously feel threatened by any religion that does not advance your own religious agenda, but that is your problem, not mine.

You have a lot of issues and a long journey ahead of you before you act and sound like the sort of Christian I love to know and in fact admire. And I wish you well on the journey.

Start again with Psalms and Proverbs. You're welcome.

Already have seen it. Good luck in the journey to get a better understanding of what you interpret incorrectly about various parts of the Bible.

I haven't misinterpreted you. You will vote for Obama come election day. Mark my words. You already voted for the baby killer once. You'll do it again. It is what you are.

Read slow enough to comprehend, dude. I said you misinterpret parts of the Bible, not me. Though you yourself have admitted you like to not take the time to read what I have to say.

As for my vote, you are wrong, and I always mean what I say. He supported the end of Habeas corpus and indefinite detention of Americans so we have a deep and systemic separation of paths, him and I.

I may not vote at all in the presidential election and make my ballot one with what is called an under vote, but your snide comment is disrespectful and shows immaturity on your part. Which sadly is no surprise to see coming from you.

The parts I have tried in the past to tell you about how you misinterpret them in the past in here, of course.

That you never slowed down to digest that I have done so and where is not surprising indeed.

I will be happy to return to the particular scripture and discuss where you misunderstand and misinterpret it and why, and in fact will be happy to do so.

But not right this moment, and not in this thread. It woild be something too radically off topic for here, and I am doing more then one thing right now, and want to do that particular task when I can focus on it. And trust me, I sure am eager to do this with you and am not shining you on.
