AIDS -- 'the only politically protected disease'

Chad Groening and Jody Brown - OneNewsNow - 12/1/2011 2:20:00 PM

Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, says AIDS has been the only "politically protected disease" -- and that, he says, is why Barack Obama and others support World AIDS Day.

President Obama is setting a new goal of getting AIDS drugs to two million more people living with HIV around the world by the end of 2013. At a Washington event marking World AIDS Day, the president announced Thursday that he is directing a $50 million increase in spending on HIV and AIDS treatment in the U.S. The White House says there are 1.2 million Americans living with HIV, and 50,000 new infections each year.

LaBarbera is calling Obama to task for announcing a deeper U.S. commitment to combating AIDS -- instead of taking practical measures to curb its spread.

"AIDS has always been the only politically protected disease. The elephant in the room is homosexual -- especially male -- sexual behavior," he argues. "We have these amazing statistics which show this huge, disproportional disease rate for men who have sex with men.

"So because it's attached to homosexuality, there are things like World AIDS Day," he continues. "It becomes a political thing rather than just taking practical public health measures necessary to stop or slow down this disease."

For example, LaBarbera says instead of spending millions on AIDS research, the government should shut down the notorious "gay bath houses" in major cities that facilitate the spread of HIV.

"They're like perversion centers. These are places where men go for anonymous, homosexual sex," he states. "It's the highest risk sex around -- and there's these clubs [where] basically men just go to have anonymous sex.

"So I want to know: Why isn't the government working to shut down these perversion centers that facilitate the very behavior that is helping to spread HIV?"

The pro-family activist points out that while the government is going out of its way to discourage people from unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking and obesity, it is doing nothing to discourage those who practice the lifestyle that leads to AIDS.

LaBarbera has called on the government to acknowledge "gay" sex as high risk, teach school children the lifestyle's real risks, "re-stigmatize" dangerous behaviors among homosexual males, work toward equalizing federal spending on other serious, life-threatening diseases, and stop what he describes as "bigoted 'homophobia' propaganda."

Most of the people of the world who are infected got so in the commission of heterosexual relations. In any event, the institution of marriage to promote monogamy was an effective way to curb the incidence of STDs, and there is no reason not to legalize marriage for everyone.

Homosexuality is just another variation of normative human sexual behavior and is not going away regardless of any sanctions taken against it. That is an insanity as senseless as banning people with blue eyes, or brown hair from having kids to wipe out that characteristic.

It is also immature and vindictive to try to stigmatize anyone for any medical condition, and the general intent of this piece involves stirring homophobia, not dealing with the HIV problem.

It does not mention that a big problem causing infections is IV drug use, and the reason one can easily buy or obtain clean needles legally to fight needle sharing.

If that part of the problem was dealt with in the mean spirit of this piece, needles would be hard to obtain, and people would be treated like lepers with no quarter given anyone for their medical condition to help maintain a climate where people seek and obtain help for this infection.

Not even the statistical proof that a good 'sharp box,' or needle exchange program that show this an effective way to deal with infections via IV drug use would mean nothing to these authors, as HIV is not their target; their goal is to hate and bait based on bigotry of homosexuals.

You are for giving people needles so they can destroy themselves. That isn't what a friend would do Mike. I'm sure you mean well but that doesn't mean that you are doing a good deed.

It is a perversion Mike. It isn't normal or everyone would be partaking in the perversion. I do agree that it isn't going away.

The faggots just need to shut up about it and get back in the closet. Quit trying to recruit kids through schools.

You can't 'recruit' people for sexual preference. Either someone is homosexual or heterosexual; you don't 'decide' to be one or another; people are either one or the other.

I noted how your Obama sitting by a friend on a couch was done in the spirit of the sort of bullying and intimidation kids often get in school.

You are against non-existing 'recruiting,' but you see nothing wrong with things like say a couple of jocks calling a short, skinny kid a homo just to bait, humiliate and bully someone for their own pleasure.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have engaged in such nonsense in your history as a student.

Mike you are full of shit. They recruit in schools. Your boy Sandusky was just born that way right? Murderers are just born that way. Theives are just born that way. We are all born with a sin nature. We have a choice if we act on it or not. You are obsessed with defending deviant perverts. Disgusting Mike.

The American Psychological Association (APA) has done a great deal of impartial research on homosexuality that proves convincingly this sexual imprinting is most certainly not a mere, 'lifestyle choice.' It also showed that when you compared straights and gays in terms of how well and productively they conduct their lives without mentioning which were what gender orientation, both groups were indistinguishable from one another.

Which is why this excellent research resulted in an ending of the stigmatization in the DMS, reclassifying it as a variation of human sexual behavior.

Stigmatizing people for being born the way they are accomplishes nothing good. It is only good to create wedge issues with. Which is the art of creating needless fear and hate to push other agendas people would normally have the good sense to see through and ignore.

"Your boy Obama is a faggot."

This is just an example of the type of inference that high school bullying of kids where they are labelled as being 'homos' as an excuse to bully.

President Obama is happily married and has two kids. And you use innuendo and rumors as truth, but don't do the same in regards to a possible relationship between GW Bush and Jeff Gannon. A situation with heavy smoke about it that makes much more convincing rumor mongering material than anything allegedly involving Barack Obama.

You do not impress me with such a shaky argument.

There is no need to cure what is not an affliction. It is OK if people are gay.

It is not chosen, infectious, or involve recruitment.

Your boy Obama was hanging out with documented tea bagger Reggie Love. It isn't a rumor anymore. Reggie is a faggot. So is Obama. If you love faggots so much maybe you should speak out for Obamas former lovers who have been murdered.

Keep telling yourself that Mike. If you repeat it enough maybe you will actually believe it.

"Your boy Obama was hanging out with documented tea bagger Reggie Love."

I have a great deal of homosexual friends and socialize with them quite often.

I also am a member of Basic Rights Oregon that came into being when we were fighting the hatefulness coming from the now defunct 'Oregon Citizen's Alliance' (OCA) when they ran a failed string of anti-gay ballot measures here in Oregon.

They all respect my preference, and I have never seen any desire to try to 'recruit' me to engage in any activity that in no way fires my rocket.

So what if President Obama has gay friends. It proves nothing except he is not a bigot in that regard.

"Keep telling yourself that Mike. If you repeat it enough maybe you will actually believe it."

When I was a short skinny kid I was bullied in high school with slander regarding sexual preference. That is the only thing I have experienced in terms of how others have dealt with attempts to slight heterosexuality.

It in fact caused me to have a strong dis-like for homosexuals in the years immediately after high school as a defensive posture in response to my anger at the abuse from others.

The only thing that did in the end though was to create a passionate hatred of people who try to bully others with this sort off tactic.

Much as reading and learning killed my childhood racism I was infected with by my Mother, I learned the error of my ways and I have done the homework learning the wrongs to my hatred I engaged in in my late teens. I moved beyond my pointless bigotry against homosexual folks.

I do not hate people for just being who they are as they have always historically been. I hate haters who use them as scapegoats to promote their own agendas and hatred. I am a flawed human who has been infected with senseless hatred and bigotries.

To my credit, I evolved past that by daring to learn and challenge my belief systems to see if they really do have merit.

I used to be very pro-abortion and I did the same in regards to that stance and changed it as well. I never let my ego keep me locked into a failed or wrong mindset on anything.
