EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) - Tense moments for Occupy Eugene protesters Saturday afternoon when police and paramedics were called for a reported heroin overdose. Just after four o'clock, protesters say a man in his early 30's passed out with a shallow pulse. Protesters say two occupiers may have helped save the man's life. A registered nurse and a doctor came to the man’s aid shortly after he passed out, giving him CPR before on-duty paramedics arrived. The man eventually regained consciousness and is said to be okay. NewsSource 16 was told he refused to go to the hospital by ambulance, but, agreed to let Occupy Eugene members drive him there.

One bad incident does not define Occupy Eugene. One thing the powers that be has been doing is pointing addicts that are always around toward us. We have had people get cab rides paid if they agree to come here to the occupy site. We ID such folks and stay with them until they realize they need to go elsewhere to do the drug activity. We have had our organizational evolution, and we are running things fine. We have well trained peace keepers and eye and ears everywhere on site. People like myself who are known to be non-violent entities are involved in this and by and large things are running well, thank you. Eugene is a far difference city then Portland even. It is made up of many multi generational people. Springfield is red neck, crankster gangster, blue collar worker land that runs conservative. Eugene is a college town with a very overwhelmingly liberal/ Democratic population. President Obama won here greater then 5 to 1. We have a huge anarchist community of which I am a member of in good standing. Occupy Eugene will not be evicted from Washington/Jefferson Park as long as we remain this safe, clean and peaceful. The real question in my mind of course is what tactics are next? How else do we get a message out and how will it develop? As far as heroin ODs go, just go down to Tiny's Tavern on Blair and you will see the ambulances and EFD respond to lots of them in nearby Scobert Park. Old news, old story, not even the place is changed as Washington/Jefferson Park is land under a viaduct carrying Hwy 105 over the Willamette River to where it empties on W6th Street by the Jefferson 7 Eleven store. There were ODs in that park before OE was there, and will be after we are gone. It's just a fact of life. I live here in this very area and grew up hardened to New Haven, Connecticut street life. There is nothing that goes on here that I have both seen and can handle. Occupy Eugene is right outside my doorstep neighbor wise.

I'm on the other coast. That part of the country has many McCarthys in it. In fact there was another Michael McCarthy down the street from me in Clinton, Connecticut where i was from back there. Sherlock Holmes, you are not.

Don't include me in the decision process for how you do threads. Things are going well here. I have school work and other things besides this so I am not the best person for a day to day concerning the site. I am on the computer doing homework and saw this thread when I lurked for a moment. Eugene has a very long history with this sort of protest. As long as OE remains safe, clean and peaceful, it will be around a while.

There are many trees on 'death row.' And they heed more then just my concern. It's easy to scoff at people who care about something enough to put their live and limb on the line for it, but seriously, would you do the same? Pretty mindless stock response. I live indoors, I have a job, and I have never even had a credit card, never mind get something I did not earn. Perhaps you should worry about your own shortcomings instead of assuming only those you dislike have them.
Explain how 'Mammy' is derogatory. It is a very mild nickname, and I don't see you chiding about the use of 'Ming,' or any one of the various derogatory things routinely thrown my way by some in here. Not to mention Mammy's infamous thread accusing me of being other mike mcCarthys she had to beg you to delete she was getting so hosed a bout it, or the thread on a bogus account on another forum I had never used she tried to blackmail me on.
