I look at my wife, kids, neighbors, and co-workers... There IS something substantial worth defending there. I make a big distinction between America and the United States. America is a concept, articulated in the Declaration of Independence and insisted upon in the Bill of Rights. At every step of the way, the power hungry politicians of the United States GOVERNMENT have resisted the very concept of America -- a free people governing themselves. You and I actually agree on quite a lot. In this case, we are misunderstanding each other's language. In my view, the United States government is NOT America. I do NOT agree with, uphold or apologize for the actions of Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, George Bush, George Bush Junior, or Barack Obama.
