As politicians in Washington, D.C., debate how to shrink the size of government, their counterparts in statehouses have actually been doing it. Public-sector jobs now account for the smallest share of the nation's employment since the 2008 financial crisis, according to new data released yesterday.

In October, the public sector cut 24,000 jobs while private industry continued adding jobs at a steady clip, the Labor Department said yesterday. The nation's unemployment rate fell slightly to 9 percent, but it would have been 8.7 percent had state and local governments not contracted the past two years.

Amid lower tax revenue due to the recession, state and local governments have cut 455,000 jobs since the beginning of 2010.

Overall, the proportion of government jobs fell to 16.7 percent in October, its lowest level in three years. The cuts are a victory for those who argue for a leaner public sector, but they have also weighed down the overall job market.

Good. Shrink more. Like 80 percent more. Still to many lazy government workers. They are lazy be definition.

Thou shalt not bear false witness...

I want to take you at your word when you claim to be a follower of Jesus, but you make it difficult when you break his commandments repeatedly and unapologetically.

So then you're holding your father and uncle responsible for what you write?

I've seen it first hand too.

The laziest and often drunkest employees I've ever seen, worked for PG and E. And Californians are now bearing the brunt.

You've probably never been to the BMV.

Union workers are also very lazy. Had to get some metal from Ohio metal one time. It is now called alro steel or something. Anyway we needed a few rolls of metal. The rolls were sitting across the warehouse in plain view. The guy could have went over there and got our metal. But instead he stood there because it wasn't his job. We had to wait for 15 min or so for the proper person to give us the metal. We could have walked over and picked it up ourselves in about 2 min. But unions put laziness into contracts.
