Fascinating; as this common epithet for a fuckwit like you discribes you well. I had not expected you to understand my lifelong love of my personal metaphor for the country I am from and love. Old Ironsides never lost a battle. She inspired the citizens of this country to ave her when she reached old age and faced a normal death for a wooden ship. Children sent their pennies to keep her with us, and she is still strong, beautiful; a piece of living poetry and heart song chiseled from live oak and iron. I go to her and always remember why I love this place, the United States. Nothing I am can say is going to change your delusions of grandeur regarding your own high impression of yourself, or change the mission you have to make this other then a game where you seek to drive those you hate from here. This comprehension of your motives, what you are, and how this place is likely an outlet to relieve pressure from elements of your live causing you stress or a lack of control makes me beyond you ability to affect me. IIRC Denison Texas had no documented recording of Ike's birth there and it wasn't until many years later that Mamie put the info together and had his father sign it. See this story to see why that's not true - yet. The Stolen Valor Act (18 U.S.C. §704) was revised in 2005. This revised version was ruled unconstitutional by the 9th Circuit in 2010. As noted, the Supreme Court has granted cert to hear the case sometime in 2012. An infraction pertaining to the Medal of Honor provided for imprisonment for not more than one year. A federal felony is subject to imprisonment in excess of one year. The statute would only establish a misdemeanor. [...] The rule the government and dissent urge us to apply in order to uphold the Act would, if adopted, significantly enlarge the scope of existing categorical exceptions to First Amendment protection. All previous circumstances in which lies have been found proscribable involve not just knowing falsity, but additional elements that serve to narrow what speech may be punished. Indeed, if the Act is constitutional under the analysis proffered by Judge Bybee, then there would be no constitutional bar to criminalizing lying about one’s height, weight, age, or financial status on Match.com or Facebook, or falsely representing to one’s mother that one does not smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, is a virgin, or has not exceeded the speed limit while driving on the freeway. In December 1943, President Roosevelt announced Eisenhower, still then only officially holding the rank of Colonel would be the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, being promoted immediately to being a four star Major General - one of the most dramatic rise in promotions in American history. The announcement sent shockwaves through the US and even the Allied forces as Eisenhower was promoted over the heads of over fifty seasoned military leaders, including his former friend and mentor Douglas MacArthur - all of whom had far greater skill and merit. Whether true or false, there is no question that Eisenhower quickly shelved the Churchill plan of a 1943 invasion while the Nazi forces were in a state of disarray and allowed the Germans a full six months to re-arm and re- equip their French forces ahead of any invasion. Anybody that thinks it was Eisenhower made that decision is either ignorant of how the army works,or is delusional. That decision was made in the WH and at the Pentagram in the office of the JCS. To counter the claims and rumour mills, Eisenhower authorised the leak of stories to damage the character of Patton including blaming Patton for the escape of the 150,000 soldiers of the German army and that Patton was mentally unstable. Patton WAS mentally unstable. I have talked with soldiers that served under him in WW-2,and they were all in agreement that he was both insane and a asshole. One of these men was childhood friends of my parents that was drafted in WW-2,and ended up winning a DSC and battlefield promotion in North Africa,ending up as a 1st Lt and Armor platoon leader. BTW,being mentally unstable doesn't mean he was wrong when it came to how to win the war and the danger of the Soviets,though. No rational, military or political explanation for this order has ever been given. The effect of Eisenhower's deliberate decisions to prolong the war cost an additional 100,000 allied personnel and effectively handed Eastern Europe to the Soviet Union. Once again,that decision was above his paygrade. It was made in the WH by King Franklin,who was looking out for his Soviet buddies. That's the way it works in America. I stand corrected. Thanks. At least technically. The few cases I know of where someone has gone to jail for falsely claiming a MoH always involved profiting from that claim. Which would make it a fraud and a felony. Telling your neighbor you earned a MoH is one thing. Telling audiences on speaking tours or using those credentials in order to establish your "legend" in order to promote your business and get contracts is something altogether different. Since all he really did was play golf and smile a lot,it worked out really well. As you've pointed out, Ike gave his warning about the "military-industrial complex" - he was signaling it wasn't he as President who was pulling the strings. I would say it was more of a case of a president who was tired of having HIS strings pulled by these very same creatures,and a man familiar enough with military procurement and operations that he truly understood the danger to our Republic it represented. After all,you don't have to be the first in your class to realize you need to get off the tracks when there is a train bearing down on you.

Wasn't it MacArthur who said that? May have been. I know Ike worked under Big Mac,and I THINK he may have worked under Patton at one point or another. Patton was his superior until Ike rocketed right up 5 paygrades without going to jail or collecting 200 dollars. Then again,it could have been both of them. It ain't like either one was very lacking when it came to self-image or pettiness. Both were brilliant men in their own right,and in Patton's case truly fearless to top it off,but they both surely had their own VERY big flaws.

There were several attempts by the German High Command to make a separate peace with the west,and they were all turned down. The most common reason/explanation given is that the Germans wanted a negotiated surrender leaving the Germans in charge of Germany,and the Allies wanted a unconditional surrender. Mostly the Brits and the Soviets. AFAIK there is zero controversy over this. It is a established historical fact that the German Military kept trying to surrender,and kept getting ignored. Even Rommel was a part of the conspiracy. He managed to avoid being hanged on a meat hook,but a lot of the other senior officers weren't so lucky. The one German Waffen war hero (Stauffenberg) that tried to blow up Hitler's bunker and kill Hitler. Tom Cruise recently starred in a movie about this and played the role of Stauffenberg. Even though the Allies refused to accept their surrender terms,the senior officers thought killing Hitler would be a good move that might cause public opinion to demand the Allies negotiate a surrender if Hitler were killed. Here is a interesting link with attempts to kill Hitler listed. This is the first time I ever heard that Ike was the one that made the decision to do this,though. Probably because the mere suggestion that a theater General or anybody else in the military had the authority to turn down a surrender during a war would result in howls of laughter. That type of thing is a political decision,not a military one. Soldiers,sailors,and Marines may accept the surrender of enemy soldiers,but it takes a nation to accept the surrender of a nation. So for all Patton's mouthy warnings and loathing of the Soviets, HE was right, and FDR was wrong. He smelled the stench of rot from DC and had had it. Yup. Not much doubt about that. As much as it pains me to say this,this was a brilliant move by King Franklin. Eisenhower was the perfect man for that slot. While he was never much of anything as a soldier,he was a superb politician,and a politician is what that job needed,not a strategic and tactical military mind. What King Franklin (and the world) needed in that position was a man that could sooth the egos of some pretty massive prima donnas like Patton,Montgomery,and DeGaulle,and get them to work together. I suspect herding cats would have been a task easier to accomplish.
