Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin dashed the hopes of her many supporters when she announced Wednesday evening her decision not to run for president in 2012.

Palin broke the news on Mark Levin’s radio program. In a letter to supporters, she wrote, “After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States.”

“As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision,” Palin wrote. “When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.”

Palin told Levin that she would not run as a third-party candidate and instead will concentrate on coordinating “strategies to assist in replacing the president, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.”

Dozens of commenters on Conservatives4Palin.com, an online hub for Palin supporters, reacted angrily to the news of her decision.

Many of the commenters expressed outrage that Palin had declined to run after months, if not years, of speculation. “To the people who said they knew Sarah Palin wasn’t running,” wrote commenter Jarred113, “You we’re right. She played everybody for the money. Goodbye, cruel world.” (RELATED: Palin: I won’t run for president in 2012)

“It’s as simple as this: Sarah Palin is NOT who most of us thought she was,” a commenter called Jules wrote. “She is nothing but a politician that cashed in on her supporters for 3 years to get rich and famous.”

A commenter named Dave Kawaski wrote that he had “never felt so betrayed in my life.” Jeffjackie said he felt “absolutely betrayed.”

“We all look like dupes now to the Palin haters,” he continued.

Not all of Palin’s online fans turned on her, however, and some rushed to her defense.

“I’ll continue to live out this pledge of my allegiance to her and her alone,” wrote happymullah. “I’ll also continue to donate to SarahPAC.” Founders91 agreed, saying he would “continue to support her and SarahPAC, because she has affected change for the better and has proven it before.”

“My trust runs pretty deep,” wrote commenter Rich Hahn. “Sarah has been completely honest with us. She never said she was running, just that she was seriously considering it. “

While some supporters said they would now vote for former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain or Congressman Ron Paul in Republican primaries, others expressed doubt that the republic could continue without a President Palin.

After her appearance on Mark Levin’s radio show on Wednesday evening, Palin tweeted a new YouTube video for her political action committee. As has been the case with many of the videos uploaded by her account, commenting was disabled.

I would wager that there was more "serious consideration" then prayer.

"Todd...we need to seriously consider this...5 more black guys..."

America...My Kind Of Place...

"I truly am not that concerned about [bin Laden]..."
--GW Bush

"THE MILITIA IS COMING!!! THE MILITIA IS COMING!!!"
--Sarah Palin's version of "The Midnight Ride of Paul revere"

I lurk to see if someone other than Myst or Pookie posts anything...

I was a Republican until about 6 years ago though my heart was not in it for the party or movement maybe since Bush was elected. So as time went on I was able to less and less identify with the right wing and since I stopped listening to talk radio or FOX I was less in tune with the right wing mind think as time went on.

So when Palin came around, I honestly did not get why she became such a big star. I understand during the campaign, the need to cheerlead your team but I can't for the life of me understand why she was viewed as such a big deal after the campaign by the right wing like Goldi. OK, Goldi is crazy but still she was not alone.

Can anyone explain Palin's appeal to me?

(I also think Palin support might be psycho-sexual for a lot of these repressed GOP males who are used to watching FOX news hotties? But it can't be that retarded, can it?)

That is one of the saddest comments on the state of conservative membership... It is just too stupid to think that a whole political movement is based around middle aged men who lear at a woman..

Maybe they spend so much time in topless bars that they assume women winking at them and paying attention to them for a dollar is foreplay?

How embarassing all these folks were, calling her the new Esther, the new Washington, etc. Sad bastards.

The funniest part is that like good cultists for whom the prophesied date of the Rapture came and went, have either:

1) Gone right to denial

2) Started promoting her for VP

3) Have pushed out the prophecy to 2016 and even 2020

LOL. Puh-thetic.

Goldi really went insane about promoting Sarah as the great hope of the Republic in her forum. And as you can see by the above comment made by someone sick to death of this insane spin she enforced with deletions and banning just why this story is so big on that forum.

It's a barrier to trust that she would serve a full term if she doesn't do so. That's a fact of life.

Is there anyone running right now that would be a better president. Maybe, probably not. I'll leave out Ron Paul.

I don't understand what you mean. I like debating current issues and stories, but I don't specifically come here to do that.

The last time I had a discussion/argument about me liking to argue with someone it was with my ex. Thus you will have to pardon me, but I don't want the male version of what was an incredibly irrational debate about my allegedly liking to debate with her.

"I don't know if it is a barrier to trust. You're biased so I don't accept your opinion. It didn't make me not trust her anymore or less then before."

Think of it this way; if you are an employer and see a job applicant did the sort of job she or he is applying for but quit in the middle of it, wouldn't you want to know if this time they were going to stay on and finish the job for you?

People look at a track record when they vote for candidates. If they quit in the middle of a term for governor, they are less likely to assume this will not happen again.

This is a factor that affects people regardless of where their ideology is in relation to that of the candidates in question.

She's OK, and still a good friend of mine as is the best way to be with a co-parent. She and I married when we were both in the U.S. Army. She did not like Oregon at all, and I did not want to live in North Carolina where she was born.

She works in school administration, and my son is an RN who works in trauma medicine. She is very smart, and a very nice person.

It's always been a coin toss whether our split was a wise move or not. Hey, at least I have two places I could hole up in N.C. when I go back there.

The stereotype that male nurses are predominantly homosexuals continues to deter men from entering the profession, as a study has claimed.

No that there's anything wrong with that

Obama has played at being a president while enjoying the perks … golf, insanely expensive vacations at tax-payer expense. He has ignored the responsibilities of the job; no plans, no budgets, no alternatives … just finger pointing; making him a complete failure as a president
