Oct 1, 2011 6:41pm Rick Perry Says Drug War ‘May Require Our Military in Mexico’ Texas Gov. Rick Perry spent today campaigning in New Hampshire, hammering away at his message that “over-taxation, over-regulation, and over-litigation” are hurting business and the U.S. economy, but he also advocated for a larger government role in the war on drugs. At a house party in Manchester, Perry said that ending the drug war in Mexico “may require our military in Mexico.” “The way that we were able to stop the drug cartels in Colombia was with a coordinated effort,” Perry said. “It may require our military in Mexico working in concert with them to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off of our border and to destroy their networks. I don’t know all the scenarios that are out there but I think it is very important that we work with them, to keep that country from failing.” The comments raise questions about whether the governor would support military action by executive order. Perry has long supported sending U.S. troops to Mexico to help with the drug war.

She was done before that remark. It just reinforced WHY she is done. Goodwinson's point is spot on, tho. There is a Moonbat wing in the GOP that, while it is not a substantial plurality, it is still a significant one. Bachmann, rather than focus on the crony capitalism aspect of Perry's decision - which was the right tact, imho - went the Moonbat, visceral route. Given her previous gaffes - a generous term for them to be sure - this was no more than an extrinsic exercise in why she is safe in her Moonbat district but nowhere else.

All parties have their moonbat elements (you can find anti-vaccination kooks on the left as well) but the GOP has embraced them more because the more stable elements of the GOP quit the party. I quit the GOP as a member into Bush's first term. Now the GOP is a party that has as a litmus test, denying science like evolution. That's just too much for any sensible person to remain in such a party as a member. So the only base that can be counted on are the kooks and as the debate audiences have shown - there is a consequence for letting the kooks into the door.
