As has been pointed out before, the law recognizes a bifurcation of what occurs on a battlefield and what occurs in custody. The issue was never whether the capture of a combatant was legal. It was what DumbDubv43 tried to get away with AFTERWARD that was the issue. The SCOTUS agreed, btw.
I challenge you to find any post of mine in which my advocacy of this fact changed in Janiary of 2009.

First off, Obama never promised to stop the war in Afghanistan. He did promise to escalate it. Secondly, he has wound down and continues to wind down the combat presence in Iraq.

We are not at war with Yemen and we were engaged with strikes against al-Qaeda in Yemen when Bush was in office.

The order to kill Bin Laden was issued by Billl Clinton, the same POTUS you have previously taken to task for NOT having dealt with Bin Laden when he was in office.

And since Bin Laden was a clearly recognizable figure as a both a combatant and a command and control figure of other combatants, he was clearly subject to a "battlefield" dispensation no matter where he was. We killed Yamamoto and have targeted other military leaders throughout history.
I do not lose one half wink of sleep nor do I fear for the erosion of the USCON because Bin Laden was splashed in his bed clothes and then got pissed on by some SEALS and Marines - and probably a few hundred of their drivers - and then kicked overboard to have his carcass consumed by whatever cared to eat it.
It goes the same for that that asshole in Yemen. A clear combatant as well as the command and control of other combatants who CLEARLY - despite your contrary myopia - would attack US citizens and interests whereever they could be engaged.

Alow me to re-focus your attention on the context of my answer which was you incorrectly stating that Obama promised to "wind down" Afghanistan which was 100% bullshit.
I will focus this strategy on five goals essential to making America safer: ending the war in Iraq responsibly; finishing the fight against Al Qaeda and the Taliban; securing all nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states; achieving true energy security; and rebuilding our alliances to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Now is the time for a responsible redeployment of our combat troops that pushes Iraq’s leaders toward a political solution, rebuilds our military, and refocuses on Afghanistan and our broader security interests.

Obama did not start the war in Libya or Yemen.
A) Khaddafy has killed US citizens and thumbed his nose in allowing the Lockerbie bombers to be brought to US justice.
B) The Libya campaign was initiated by NATO and pushed for by France.
C) The "war" in Yemen is targeted against Al Qeada and was started by DumbDubv43.
Btw, the information Bush's interrogators arguably "got away with" saved innumerable American lives. Meanwhile NO lives are lost waterboarding process.
Neither DumbDubv43 nor The Big Dick nor any of the interrogators have offered any substantive evidence, in fact most hasn't even been anecdotal, that water boarding saved even one life.
