LF Meaningless Chatter and Get Aquainted Thread

I think all shooters have a certain nostalgia for their first weapon, with which they learned marksmanship and basic gun safety. Whether it be a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun or a .410 shotgun, every fire-arms enthusiast I've ever met remembers his gun with a certain fondness.

So what was your first gun? Mine was a Marlin .22 auto. I saved up for it when I was around twelve, by trapping raccoons for their pelts...(back when furs were still worth something.) It had a 17 round tubelar magazine. I had it for around ten years, and went through about forty thousand rounds with it. Then, I "lent" it to my uncle's step-son in '84 or '85. He tried to convert it to full-auto by butchering the receiver. Kinda lost track of it, after that...

I had a Daisy BB gun at about 12. That was it until a much more recent .22 Ruger semi auto and SKS.

Some POS Monkey Ward single shot .22 that I could have used to shoot around corners.

It got stolen about a month later. I hope the SOB that stole it ended up going hungry trying to put game in the pot.

Replaced with a Sears .22 much like the one you described. Pretty good rifle. Marlin made those for Sears and JC Higgins for sure, and possibly for Western Auto and Monkey Ward.

My poppy had and still has the .22 pump action that he used to teach me how to shoot. Safety was the number one concern. Hitt'n them tin cans was always at the front of my mind.

I really don't remember what my first gun ever was but the first one I purchased myself is my modern repro "colt" Navy cap and ball revolver. I have become a strong advocate of such repro black powder weapons as the "colt" navy and army, "remington" army, and Ruger Old Army revolvers and "sharps" and "smith" cap and ball breechloaders because these can still be purchased cash 'n' carry and off the record in several states including even some "blue" ones. For this reason I think cap and ball weapons just might have to paly a backbone roll in anyi tyrrany defense again.

If the American Constitution is "Just another G-dd----d piece of paper", Bush must think the Bible is "Just another G-d----d book" - since he defiles both by his actions!

Daisy Golden Eagle BB gun, CO2 pellet pistol (a real piece of crap due to poor seals), Winchester 97 16 gauge shotgun, Browning Challenger .22 - I still have the 97 and the Challenger; and in the last three years, have added considerably to the collection, just in case...
