Title: Elizabeth Warren: "There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own"

An August video of Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren on the campaign trail is heating up on the internet, and some commentators are pointing to the clip - in which Warren makes a case for progressive economic policies - as evidence that the newly minted Democratic candidate could give incumbent Republican Senator Scott Brown a run for his money.

In the video (at left), which was filmed at an event in Andover, Mass., Warren rebuts the GOP-touted notion that raising taxes on the wealthy amounts to "class warfare," contending that "there is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody."

Warren rejects the concept that it is possible for Americans to become wealthy in isolation.

"You built a factory out there? Good for you," she says. "But I want to be clear: you moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did."

She continues: "Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."

Warren's entrance into the Massachusetts Senate race marks her first-ever political bid - and while the longtime consumer advocate is beloved by a number of liberals, some wondered if her lack of political experience would prove crippling in the contest.

The Washington Monthly's Steven Benen, however, points to the video as an explanation as to "why Warren has a strong base of supporters who adore her."

"If there are lingering concerns about whether Warren could be an effective speaker on the stump, I think those questions are being answered," Benen writes. "If more Democrats were able to make the case for the underlying social contract as effectively, our discourse would be vastly less mind-numbing."

Elizabeth Warren

Yet another brain dead college professor who has never ran a business, created a job, made a payroll, or had to live under the oppressive regulations that people like her created.

To hell with her.

That pretty much sums it up.

What that idiot doesn't state is that the flip side is true. Nobody ever became a serf or a outright slave without the approval of government.

Or that a man that lives in isolation and is self-sufficient is rich in every way possible except for money, and money doesn't matter when there is nothing to buy.

Or that the roads, bridges, etc, etc, etc were created in order for business to flourish so that people would have a place to work. They weren't made so you could catch a mule cart to visit your aunt Tilly that lives 5 miles away.

Brown was the product of a special election which won't be ratified in a full blown general election that is going to be as hard edged as this one.

She is the true annointed by the Democratic Party of the bay State. She will "throw the scoundrel out if Ted Kennedy's seat."

You watch, I am right on this point.

Massachusetts was also the only state that voted for George McGovern in 72, so you might very well be right.

However, the country is going to punish Obama for the rotten economy. If the punishment is large enough, she could get swept up in the tidal wave against him.

We'll see.

I'm from there. I grew up in Connecticut and originally was a Republican who supported Nixon over Humphrey. Most of my family hail from Massachusetts and she is all they talk about when I call and talk politics with them. I grew up going to private schools with high expectations and very competative mostly Republican classmates. I actually had to learn how to think in school.

Which was useful, but I would of prefered to get there without taking three years of Latin.

As for the result of the general presidential election? President Obama is a skilled campaigner and has the best team organizing and running the show for him. So we'll see how it will play.

He certainly is vulnerable, but I wouldn't count him out just yet.

Wow you certainly have a completely different background than I do.

I grew up in a blue collar neighborhood in the Detroit area.

I was a kid during the 67 riots, but I remember the curfews and National Guard in the streets. Prior to the Great Depression, Detroit was one of the most prosperous and beautiful cities in the country, with magnificent French architecture. Today, it's a burned out hell.

I also went to government monopoly schools. They tried to double promote me twice, but my parents wouldn't go for it. By the fourth grade, I got completely bored with school because I knew more than the teachers.

They almost kicked me out of high school, because it was so boring that I never showed up. I worked in my dad's gas station instead. I somehow managed to graduate. Then I went in Air Force as an enlisted person. After I got out, I worked my way through college and got a Computer Science degree at nights and on the weekends from a small Catholic commuter school.

In spite of my less than privileged background, I have been very successful -- a Development Manager at Microsoft, a Vice President at another technology company, a Chief Technology Office at startup, and now the owner of a technology consulting company. I am successful because I love what I do.

My second wife grew up in the third world in a one room bamboo hut. She opened a home daycare two years ago and already earns what the average family in America makes. Next year, we will open up the first of many daycare centers.

This is the real America -- people pulling themselves up from whatever circumstances they were born into and making something of their lives.

Poor immigrants know this. Leftist lunatics don't.

I understand firsthand the damage that the left has wrought on our cities, schools and country.

So, I don't care how skilled of a campaigner Obama is, he is going down in a big way because envy and resentment don't sell. The left left lives and breaths envy and resentment, but the left comprise a tiny portion of the electorate.

Sure, polls show that a small majority of Americans might favor raising taxes on the "rich", but that won't translate into votes because most Americans care more about themselves than the left's various boogie men.

Mark my words, Obama will get about 40% to 43% of the vote next November.

Fasinating personal story and I congradulate you for your success. But there is nothing correct in your take on the left.

Both sides of the political spectrum has it's faults and graces, so whenever one or the other bombastically put the other down, it is a fool's exercise.

We get our best results and most satisfaction when the art of comprimise works and all parts of government operate withing the checks and balances of power called for in the COnstitution without the undue influences of high paid lobbiests to help derail the process.

I here you are strong in your beliefs and very angry at the left. But you need to get over that and re-evaluate your perspective on the American political system.

Because your vitriol anger and poison you like to spew might make you personally very happy, but politically it doesn't take you anywhere polically I personally would want to go at all.

Look at the leftists on this board -- goober, war, etc.

They are obsessed with what other people earn. It eats them up inside.

Every time I read one of their posts, I think of this quote: "Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own."

There is no other real explanation for the obsession that these people have with both the success of others and their burning desire to punish the successful.
