Title: Saudi women given right to vote

Saudi Arabia will allow women to stand for election and vote, the king announced on Sunday, in a significant policy shift in the conservative Islamic kingdom.

In a five-minute speech, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud said women will also take part in the next session of the unelected, advisory Shura Council, which vets legislation but has no binding powers.

"Because we refuse to marginalize women in society in all roles that comply with sharia, we have decided, after deliberation with our senior ulama (clerics) and others... to involve women in the Shura Council as members, starting from the next term," he said in a speech delivered to the advisory body.

"Women will be able to run as candidates in the municipal election and will even have a right to vote."

Women's rights are regarded as a litmus test for the government's appetite for social and political reform. Saudi Arabia adheres to a strict version of Islamic law that enforces the segregation of the sexes.

"This is great news," said Wajeha al-Huwaider, a Saudi writer and women's rights activist. "Women's voices will finally be heard.

"Now it is time to remove other barriers like not allowing women to drive cars and not being able to function, to live a normal life without male guardians."

This is great to see happen, but it also a change there that is horribly long overdue. And this country has far to go before they are recognized internationally as a place where human rights are safeguared and respected.

What is your FUCKING problem? Those voting "rights" are given by a kingdom under tight control of a KING and thousands of "princes" there will be no change at all.

Just like voting for "change" in this FUCKING country. Change doesn't happen with a chad puncher; change happens based upon ACTION.

When only a few control most media and the authorities become violently oppressive and won't allow even constitutionaal rights to free speech and assembly, that is a given.

You enjoy the House of Saud proclaiming an outright lie? They won't give a shackle to anyone; it is fraudulent what is proclaimed in this article. The government, House of Saud, is Sharia; it is dominated and shall remain dominated by Muslim practices and that means the subordination of women.

Do you think a woman is going to vote for a new King? How about anything other than can carry a breadbasket made out of modern composites as opposed to wicker?

Man, you showed your silliness on this thread. You are a dolt!

Then your article is complete fabrication or at least the way you presented it in the headline banner.

You are another dumbfuck; there is no question in my mind anymore. This same shit that you exposed your ass on is ALSO rampant in America. And, yet America is in serious decline because of this same nonsense that enthralls your ovaries.

Democracy is not a method for ensuring our survival; in fact, the diametrically opposing viewpoint is true: A Republic, framed on early Grecko-Roman concepts over two thousand years ago is the way to go; that is the same concept that built America.

the idea that you encourage and endorse voter's rights without qualifications is the entire reason for the America melt down; America has succumbed to destruction because of this Democracy BULLSHIT; it is not the way the nation was framed.

Nor has it been framed anywhere on the planet. Every sovereign state has a determined and qualified PEOPLE to determine the course of their own nation's direction; not some silly-assed consideration that any riff-raff off the street can vote for it and have or possess equal parlance with one that is qualified.

You are, indeed, a DUMBFUCK!

So you would like to have taxation without representation for the majority in your fantasy oligarchy.

Yeah, right. The idea that any ignorant slut has equal footing with me within a "vote" is the ENTIRE REASON THIS NATION IS BEING TOSSED DOWN THE TOILET. the masses vote for anything concerning their own selfish interests NOT about family, business or the nation or anything for that matter.

But go ahead an get your goddamn jollies off applauding for filth to destroy a once proud nation.

I suppose one could say that voting against any tax increase as defined by Grover Norquist falls within the definition of "selfish interests".

Beware the next revolution; next time around, not anyone shall be able to vote; this is a false notion that voter's rights perform anything meaningful other than causing the complete annihilation of a once proud nation. Next time around, there shall be voter's REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS not only to vote but also even run for any elected office.

So many here have forgotten (or more likely are ignorant of) the practice of revenue stamps that was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries when we were such a 'proud nation'.

America needs tax increases to justify the platforms of endless war and war preparation around the world; but no other nation is this senseless; America has been used by special interests that have clogged the information highway with lies, bullshit and endless propaganda to keep us at war protecting interests that have nothing to do with national security.

And the gullible masses believe in that BULLSHIT; and they vote for it. You can cram your vote up your ass for all I care. None of the serious problems are addressed directly; it is all about indirect subterfuge creating an illusion does anything other than YOU are part of a process that makes you "feel" good. Americans are a pile of DUMBFUCKS.

At the point of permitting women to vote in America, that is the very point you can hallmarck the destruction of this nation. Something like 100 years ago, correct? And from there, this nation has gone to HELL.

I will admit that as women have won more rights for themselves, men have been having one heck of a time convincing women that they should be waited on hand and foot and that their word is law.
