I’m beginning to wonder whether the right to assemble is effectively dead in the US. No one who is a wage slave (which is the overwhelming majority of the population) can afford to have an arrest record, even a misdemeanor, in this age of short job tenures and rising use of background checks. Now at least in New York (and I hope readers in other cities will chime in) the right to assemble seems to be pretty much a dead letter. I was in Sydney during the global protests against the Iraq War, and I was told that the New York demonstrations (which were already hindered by typically lousy winter weather) were pretty much blocked by the police. Protestors were tying to gather at the UN, and the cops put up a cordon at Second Avenue. The result was the turnout was far lower than the number who tried to show their opposition and were stopped. The latest New York City protest is OccupyWallStreet. Even though its turnout last week fell well short of hopes (the estimates from the group were that 2000 participated; the New York Times suggests numbers more like “hundreds” but the photos from the 17th make figures larger figures seem plausible), making it a nuisance level demonstration rather than a major statement, the powers that be seem to be trying a bit too hard to prevent it from getting traction. The organizers were using Twitter to promote participation and visibility. And so Twitter intervened. From AmpedStatus: On at least two occasions, Saturday September 17th and again on Thursday night, Twitter blocked #OccupyWallStreet from being featured as a top trending topic on their homepage. On both occasions, #OccupyWallStreet tweets were coming in more frequently than other top trending topics that they were featuring on their homepage. This is blatant political censorship on the part of a company that has recently received a $400 million investment from JP Morgan Chase.

When you get around to stop your childish baiting, try to figureout that if the police will do this to this group, they will also deny your group's Constitutional right to free speech, dissent and assembly. This sort of injury to some, is an injury to us all. This is thinking that led to the American Revolution, remember?
We all have a moral compass. People who say it is ok to kill someone are not to be trusted. That is one obvious clue.
I think that they should have the right to protest. I just suggested that if they were liberals they should stay home and work on their own life. Being a liberal puts them at an intellectual disadvantage with normal conservative people.

Stone always sticks up for the corporate status quo. He would have been one to warn the British because the East India Company which was behind a lot of the dessension in that era was working for them.
Stone does not like forums that people discuss issues and current events with an even give and take. He views forums only as a venue where he explains why he feels he is always right in his viewpoint and anyone who thinks differently is evil and wrong. That about sum that up?
His obsessive need to split is a bit more complicated.

If you voted Democan or Republicrat then you really have nothing to complain about. Both parties at all levels of government have been creating an environment for this type of LEO behavior for decades. Those that have voted for either party have given them permission to behave this way.
That's a short-sighted attitude to have. A government that acts in this manner to a group you oppose can act the same way to a group you support. Thaty should be pretty obvious.

That about sum that up? Mike if you read what I said you would get a hind. I said if we lived in a "better" world liberals wouldn't be to vote. We don't live in a better world we live where we do. So there is no way to do what I said. Everyone should get to vote. It would be better if we just had someone who knew right from wrong leading us though. That would never be a liberal by the way.

No where did I state or imply that my job as a citizen is done by labeling myself an independent, libertarian, or whatever. My comment did not address the issue of what a citizens job is at all. That is a red herring remark used to redirect attention away from the subject of my post. and calling people names on internet chit-chat sites then you is missing the mark. My remark must have really hit home for you to throw out such an obviously disingenuous accusation like this. It is as plain as the nose on your face that I never called you a name on this thread and while I will admit to losing my temper and getting into flame wars in the past, it is a fairly rare occasion. To my knowledge I've never posted to you before so I highly doubt that I called you a name in the past. Your accusation has no merit.
