President Barack Obama's approval ratings have fallen to a new low, with only 36 percent of Americans saying that they approve of the way he is handling his job overall, according to a new poll from the Economist/YouGov. A majority of Americans - 56 percent - disapprove of the president's performance.

The Economist/YouGov poll surveyed 1000 respondents with a margin of error of 3.7 percent.

Oddly not included by Padlock was this:

Still, there are glimmers of hope for Obama and the Democrats.

As has been true in other polls, more trust Democrats than Republicans to handle the issue of job creation, and more believe that government spending is the way to create more jobs.

The padlock scum of the world hope mostly for successful denial of the right to vote by rethugs in measures like the closing of the DMVs in Wiscolnsin and the memos there about keping quiet about the what, where to get and deadlines in tregards to the free voter's ID cards.

This buzzard is actuallt frightened the expectable, which is that the encumbant is re-elected after the Rethugs tear each other apart in a vicious primary season. And the fear about Social Security and Medicare is as primal with the voters and an issue gets, and we are going to see incredible numbers of ads hammering home the GOPer weakness on this point.

I really would be surprised to see President Obama defeated when push comes to shove, and all is said and done.

Mike. Liberals are evil. If we lived in a better country they wouldn't be allowed to vote or have any say in any matter.

In addition to reaching the age of 18 and being a US Citizen, there should be additional requirements to vote:
He/she needs To be AT LEAST ONE of the following:
1. A proplerty owner
2. An income tax payer
3. A veteran of the US armed forces.

When you claimed to be for smaller government I didn't realize that you were referring to those who may participate in it.

That's part of it. Why should those who have no stake in government (especially the financial aspect of it) be allowed to participate in it?

If I'm not a stockholder in Wal-Mart, should I be allowed to vote on how they run their business?

You do with your dollars.

The government, tho, is not Wal-Mart. The government is US. Read the first three words of the USCON until they sink in.

True, but Wal-Mart has competitors which are available to me if I decide I don't wish to support Wal-Mart.

The fedgov is a monopoly - it doesn't.

The government, tho, is not Wal-Mart. The government is US.
Last time I checked, Wal- Mart was a helluva lot more successful. But you're right, they serve a different function.
Read the first three words of the USCON until they sink in.
You know (but won't admit it) the living breathing Constitution actually died a long, long time ago.

But I love how you on the Left LOVE to dust it off and bash people over the heads with it when it suits your purpose - and ignore it when it doesn't.

I threw my proposals out there knowing something that drastic would never be implemented, but rather to illustrate what should be done.

If people were serious about saving what's left of the country, that is.

The USCON is a living breathing document.

First off, every Framer understood how the common law functions, it evolves. Secondly, it has within it a mechanism to change it, a mechanism that has been used several times throughout history.

Do you know what agency, outside of the three branches and the military, is created by the USCON?

For some reason, I think it was the patent office - but that's just a guess.

Can you show me - chapter and verse in the Constitution - where Supreme Court Justices by simple majority get to in effect amend the Constitution?

Your premise is false.

Are you saying then that abominations from my standpoint (Roe v. Wade) and abominations from your standpoint (Citizen's United v. FCC) did not in principle amend the Constitution?

I took your advice and read Federalist 78. What I glean from it is that SCOTUS is much more powerful than Hamilton would have wanted it to be.

I stand by my assertion that your "Living, Breathing" Constitution has given us the situation where yes - the SCOTUS CAN amend the Constitution.

How nice when we agree with the decision. Not so nice when we don't

And how much better if issues like abortion and corporations having "free speech" rights were actually vetted through the amendment process as the founders envisioned it - cumbersome though that may be.

Article III gives the SCOTUS the power to decide the constitutionality oi laws. Read The Federalist #78 for a more detailed description of the SCOTUS to review laws, acts and exercises of power, most of the latter of which are implied powers.
Deciding the Constitutionality of laws should not be the same as amending the Constitution.

Yes.

The judiciary decides what a law means. We can disagree about the meaning of words...privacy...person...

I don't see how you decided that. 78 makes it pretty clear that the SCOTUS will be the final word on whether or not a law a exercise of power is constitutional.
