(CNSNews.com) - U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told members of the National Restaurant Association on Monday that Americans need to “adjust” their tastes so that they like the kind of food the government believes they should eat—and “we have to make sure that what we do is create the appropriate transition.”

“You know, as we deal with this issue of reducing sodium and sugar, it sounds simple to do, but you all know better than I do, it’s not as simple as it sounds,” said Vilsack.

“It’s going to take time for people’s taste to adjust and they will adjust over time, but it will take some time,” he said. “So, we have to make sure that what we do is create the appropriate transition.

"At the end of the day, though, we've got to deal with this," said Vilsack.

Vilsack’s remarks about Americans’ taste buds came in response to a question about the best way to deal with food waste. He said the Agriculture Department has ongoing research projects to determine how to make nutritious food more appealing so that less of it is wasted.

Vilsack mentioned visiting a Colorado school that was serving children brownies made with black beans. “The kids didn’t even know they were eating a healthier snack,” Vilsack said.

The restaurant trade group is working with the USDA to promote the government’s revised dietary guidelines for Americans.

Restaurants that participate in the voluntary Kids LiveWell program commit to offering healthful meal items for children, with a particular focus on increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and low-fat dairy, and limiting unhealthy fats, sugars and sodium.

First Lady Michelle Obama has made childhood obesity her signature issue, launching the administration’s “Let’s Move” program which is dedicated to “solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation.”

On its website, the “Let’s Move” program says that: “Everyone has a role to play in reducing childhood obesity, including parents, elected officials from all levels of government, schools, health care professionals, faith-based and community-based organizations, and private sector companies.”

It does...it's called "radio wave propagation" and it's affected by sunlight's - or lack of sunlight - on the various layers of the atmosphere.

My grandparents lived on a hill and when my Papa still drove he had a huge assed white with red top Buick Roadmaster that was actually passed along to him when a WWI buddy passed away...anyway, he would sit in that car on Summer nights and carefully tune in the dial to see what signal he could pull in...he'd get French speaking stations from Canada...he'd get signals from Steubenville, Cleveland, Detroit [WWWW], NY [WABC and WCBS], Noston [WRKO and WEEZ] Baltimore, WLS in Chicago always came in...

The government already tells you what you can and cannot ingest "for the good of society" in the form of the war on drugs. If you look at the so called logic of that type of thinking then this asshole's attitude is nothing more than the logical extension of that thought process. I may be mistaken but I believe also that not too long ago the FDA came out with a statement in some court case saying Americans do not have a right to eat the foods they want to eat (paraphrasing). Anyone who is a fan of the WOD really has no room to complain about the attempted extension of those powers.

Radio was a big part of my early childhood...we were always listening to something...we really didn't watch TV all that much except for news, Sports and Saturday AM cartoons...I used to fall asleep listening to Party Line on 1020 KDKA and, if I stayed up late enough, I'd listen to Perry Marshall who was an Art Bell type and would get the weirdest callers...we got our color in 1965 or '66 and then watched more but I still listened to my transistor...

Sirius has a station that plays classic old radio prgrams and sometimes has on the old CBS Radio Mystery Series.

BTW, "Radio Wave Propagation" was something that you had to know about to pass the test for an FCC license back in the day...

LOL. I still do that on occasion in the old '94 Yukon. From mid-michigan I call regularly listen to the NY stations, Iowa, Texas, Atlanta, etc.

Can almost always tune in the Grand Ole Opry on saturday nights even without sitting on the tailgate of the truck.

I was in the UP a lot this past May and would sit with my mom until late into the night/early morning...on the way back to my hotel I'd catch stations out of Oregon, Winnipeg, Montana and Omaha.

Yeah. Today for lunch I had some Subway. I had a Chicken Ranch with Bacon. It had lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, provolone cheese, salt, pepper, ranch dressing, onions. It was on a honey oat 12 inch sub bun. It was delicious. I would recommend it to you . You wont be disappointed.
