Congress faces historically low approval ratings as it wades into the debate over the $447 billion jobs package proposed by President Obama, with just 12 percent of Americans now approving of the way Congress is handling its job, matching its all-time low, recorded in October 2008 at the height of the economic crisis, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. Voters are slightly more disapproving of the Republicans in Congress than they are of the Democrats, with just 19 percent approving of Republicans in Congress, compared with 28 percent that approve of their Democratic counterparts.

Republican voters are more dissatisfied with their own party representatives than are Democrats. Half of Republican voters say they disapprove of Republicans in Congress, while 43 percent of Democratic voters say they disapprove of Democrats in Congress. Independents are slightly less approving of Congressional Republicans than Congressional Democrats.

Only 6 percent of registered voters say that most members of Congress have earned re-election, while 84 percent say it’s time to give someone new a chance, a historic low for the New York Times/CBS poll. Dissatisfaction with Congress runs deep across both parties, with more than 8 in 10 of both Republicans and Democrats saying it’s time to elect new representatives.

Random thoughts on the above:

1. No matter what people "think" of Congress in general, we cannot vote "on Congress". We can only vote for our own reps. We re-elect those incumbents at something like a 94 percent rate.

2. Whatever anger there is "out there" - it will be focused on the prez. When sports teams suck and the fans anger is red-hot, the owners fire the coach. Not the whole team. Likewise here. The fans are angry, and the coach (not the whole team) is going to be fired by "the owners".

3. Not to worry though, go. Given the recent history of the office of POTUS, you'll have a statist equally as bad as Obama installed. Oh, he (or she) might have that dreaded R label, but statism will roll forward.

Just not as fast as you might like.

it dropped to 85% in 2010, which is much lower than average.

Maybe, it depends on whether the opponent scares them (e.g. Bachmann).

Hmmm . . . You surprise me. I would have thought you would just as soon forget the 2010 midterms - considering how your side fared.

As far as Bachmann is concerned, she will not be the nominee. (she has a long shot to be VP - but I think that will go to Rubio).

It's pretty bad when even the former democrat mayor of NYC (Koch) endorses the 'pub.

IMO, we can throw all the polls and pundit opinions aside. If you REALLY want to know what's going on, watch NBC nightly news for coverage of the 'bamster's scandals (i.e. Solyndra)

If Brian Williams ignores them, things are cool.

If Brina Williams mentions them, the 'bamster better clean up his act.

If Brian Williams leads with them, the 'bamster is toast. He will be primaried out.

Another 'indicator' is local news website comments from viewers.

18 months ago, if you said anything remotely negative, you got 'mau mau'd' on them.

Today? Its 75% on my side...and even the attempts at spinning a pro Owe-bama line are faint at best.

foreclosure's and unemployment cut across all 'divides' in 2011.
