Republican Bob Turner’s surprisingly-big win Tuesday in New York's Ninth Congressional District is actually no surprise at all. Why? Because this is the seat of former Democratic Representative Anthony Weiner, whose amoral, disgusting – and shameful (although not criminal) – behavior in compulsively sexting pictures of himself to woman all over the nation brought unwanted attention to New York’s 9th Congressional District. Back in 1980 I ran against another liberal, Jewish Democrat – Congressman Lester Wolff – in Queens -- who had held his seat since I was 11 years old. He was deemed un-beatable. But he, too, had brought shame to his community by being the Congress’ Junket King – taking hundreds of trips all across the globe – and conducting personal business on these trips - at taxpayer expense in the midst of a horrible economy. And President Jimmy Carter – like President Obama today – appeared to American Jews to be anti-Israel. Remember Carter’s U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young secretly meeting at the PLO’s HQ in New York City? So there was in 1980 – and is this morning – a toxic brew that is fatal to a Democrat: 1) “Disgraceful” behavior by a Democratic officeholder that brings shame to his constituency. 2) A deteriorating economy which sours the voters. 3) A Democrat president who appears to be betraying Israel. Thus – 30 years ago – I became Congressman John LeBoutillier – Republican of Queens. And today: Newly minted Congressman-elect: Bob Turner, Republican of Queens. Former Republican Rep. History seems to be repeating itself. While I've noted for 24 months the comparisions between the Owe-bama Administration and the Carter Administration, I have to admit something. Now, its just getting weird how close the match up is.

Republican Senator Scott Brown made a living posing in his underwear as a male model and that is acceptable. I guess for Republicans, the fact that Weiner posed for free is shocking. Brown got paid for being in his underwear so the exchange of cash for skin is a legit business transaction.
With the economy still in the dumper -- maybe permanently? -- and full-time jobs becoming as scarce as rain during a drought, huge percentages of Americans have had their (misplaced) faith in the American dream shaken, the upper-middle-class consumerist lifestyle is exposed as a mirage for anybody who plays by the rules. Capitalism and the America that embraced it as a way of life is now and forever more a failure. It does me good to know that the generation that voted in Reagan and his ideology will see their America die from that ideology before their very own eyes and knowing they had a hand in its destruction.

Obama is exactly the opposite of Carter. Obama is aloof, detached, and unconcerned with the details at all. Carter was a micro-manager who was so immersed in the details that he couldn't see the big picture.

Only problem with your home grown spin here is it was Democrats that forced Weiner to resign. Republicans just sat back and enjoyed the spectacle. Suggestion for ya, Godwincing: Stick to DNC talking points. As bad as they are, at least they sometimes have the players correct.

If Fast and Furious or Solyndra explode as they appear about to do, the odds of a primary challenge to Owe-bama jump from 15% to 40%. At some point Democrats are going to move into 'survival mode'.
