Title: After Turner Earthquake in Weiner District Democrats Civil War Against Obama Begins

History will never be able to tell us who made the fatal error in New York’s 9th district – Barack Obama, or Anthony Weiner.

Just as Weiner kept on making critical errors every step of the way as his personal scandal unfolded earlier this year, President Obama has done everything in NY-09 to show that he is no friend of Israel and has no clue how to create jobs or learn from his many mistakes.

I predict a tectonic shift among American Jews and within the Democratic Party if Obama doesn’t quietly retire. All the spinning in the world can’t spin away the trend of Scott Brown, the Tea Party victory of November 2010, and now the Turner earthquake.

Many Democrats are awakening to the reality that their party has been hijacked by a radicalism completely unfamiliar to their parents’ and grandparents’ Democratic Party.

An internal, partisan civil war is now brewing in that party. What I think tonight is less important than what Joe Lieberman, Bill Clinton, Evan Bayh, and the rest of the former, and now defunct, reasonable wing of the Democratic Party is thinking tonight.

Bottom line.

uberl Liberal attempts at spinning this series of obvious political disasters is now a 'force multiplier' politically. It will only infuriate voters even more.

Turner won because of Israel and the Jews interest of that district are from the Likudnik side of the aisle. When Weiner was in office, he was pro Israel's Likudnik right wing govt even though he was a liberal at home. For example, Weiner took on the Likudnik position on Turkey as his own and went ballistic against Turkey during the flotilla fiasco. That kind of think can only make sense if you understand that the parts of Brooklyn that District is made up of is linked to Israel very directly.

Here is an example from Salon:

Anthony Weiner calls Turkey our "former ally": Congress' new liberal hero continues his unreasonable support for Israel's right-wing government (June 2010).

http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2010/06/03/weiner_turkey_ally

Turner was just there. This is AIPAC's Likud wing sending Obama a message.

With the economy still in the dumper -- maybe permanently? -- and full-time jobs becoming as scarce as rain during a drought, huge percentages of Americans have had their (misplaced) faith in the American dream shaken, the upper-middle-class consumerist lifestyle is exposed as a mirage for anybody who plays by the rules. Everything after this is irrelevant.

Whats great is liberals trying to SPIN IT as anything other than an unmitigated political disaster.

You guys simply don't understand that just pisses off voters even more.

I am not a registered Democrat nor do I live there and Turner's policies on Israel will be no different than Weiner's was or the D guy that lost would have been.

I do find it funny you guys seeing this as some sort of triumph - same as when the Democrats viewed winning that seat in upstate NY against a Republican as a triumph for the Democrats.

All presidents lose midterm elections - so nothing historic about it. Obama's victory was a historic one - record number of Americans voted for Obama as president.

NY9 voted as it did for Israel related reasons against Obama.

So what? Both parties are the same, right?

Let me ask - are you a pro-football fan?

If you are, chances are your favorite team has a rivalry. (a hundred years ago when the Buffalo Bills were actually good, they had a fierce rivalry with the Miami Dolphins. Now, given that both teams suck, it doesn't matter.)

Watch what happens in a typical rivalry game. Tackles are tougher, the trash talk is meaner, the hits are harder.

The "fans" are more rabid - even some fights break out in the stands.

But what happens at the end? The players shake hands, pat each other's butts, and go off the field.

Most importantly - the players cash their multi-million dollar checks.

(They do play in the same league - the NFL - after all)

USA politics circa 2011 is about as meaningful - and we "fans" are about as relevant.

Teddy Kennedy challenged Carter in 79-80. It certainly didn't help an already damaged Carter.

Had Kennedy not imploded on national TV, he probably would have wrested the nomination from old Jimmah.

In 1980, Teddy Kennedy seriously challenged a sitting President of his own party named Jimmy Carter.

ditto for Ronald Reagan seriously challenging Jerry Ford in 1976.
