DENIED! Muslims’ Application for $5 Million in Taxpayer Funds for the Ground Zero Victory Mosque

The jihadist-linked developers of the Park51 (Ground Zero Victory Mosque) Islamic center had the cojones to ask for federal post-9/11 recovery money to get their project off the ground. Fortunately, they failed.

DNA Park5182;s request for funding sparked controversy among those who did not want to see an Islamic center so close to the site of the 9/11 attacks. It appears that Park51 did not meet the eligibility requirements because the organization has not yet received its nonprofit certification.

Park51 recently applied for a $5 million grant from the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., which has distributed over $2 billion in federal funds since 9/11. The grant would have partly gone toward Islamic programs at the planned $100 million mosque and community center two blocks north of the World Trade Center site, including domestic violence prevention, Arabic and other foreign language classes.

The Park51 center “is desperately needed in Lower Manhattan,” said the developers.

DENIED! Muslims’ Application for $5 Million in Taxpayer Funds for the Ground Zero Victory Mosque

First, the proposed community center isn't a mosque. Second, it isn't located at ground zero - and we haven't even gotten through the title.

Just the kind of hateful, hyperbolic garbage I've come to expect from you.

I've been out of the grid for awhile and hadn't heard about this, so I posted it for anyone else who hadn't seen this. ~ Murron

Federal grant rejected for mosque near Ground Zero site

Kay Day, Conservative Examiner August 23, 2011

Park51, formerly Cordoba House and commonly called the Ground Zero Mosque, has been denied a federal grant to help fund the building developers describe as a community center. The project drew attention from Americans in 2010 after the local community council approved the plans.

Many conservatives acknowledged the right of developers to place whatever they wanted on the site. However, many of those same conservatives like Charles Krauthammer admitted not liking the location. Opponents viewed the project as demonstrating a lack of sensitivity to a country whose roots are Judeo- Christian.

After a controversy erupted in the blogosphere in 2010, legacy media focused on cultural diversity angles, ignoring the feelings of some families of 9/11 victims.

President Barack Obama reassured mosque developers they had the right to build the mosque, but unfortunately the president overlooked the issue of residual grief, not just in the hearts of those who lost loved ones, but in the hearts of many across the nation.

In one bizarre moment of hundreds during Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) role as Speaker of the US House of Representatives, she actually called for an investigation of the opposition. Pelosi, perhaps unaware of the first amendment to the US Constitution, didn’t appear to realize the issue surfaced only after Obama talked about it during the annual White House gathering marking the Muslim holy observance of Ramadan.

At the Park51 website there’s a blog post explaining the need for the grant to “fund social service programs.”

Federal grants often make their way into projects that have no constitutional basis, particularly when the federal money is allocated to another municipality or agency who then dispenses the funds.

The New York Times, perhaps the greatest promoter of sophistic ideas about cultural diversity on the planet, said in a recent article that developers were embracing the “slower, more deliberate and more realistic approach to the project.” The developers, suggested the newspaper, want to build more public support.

The project has undergone changes internally, from removing the imam at the helm to hosting a photographic project related to children. That project raised thousands of dollars; no mention was made of whether federal or other government funds were involved in the exhibit.

Some victims’ families aren’t taking a chance on the developer getting federal funds. The Epoch Times, one of the sole media to cover the rejected grant application, interviewed some families. The newspaper said, “A group of city firefighters, police officers, and relatives of those who died during the 9/11 terrorist attacks gathered near the World Trade Center site on Monday to condemn Park51’s potential reapplication for federal grant money.”

From 3,000 miles away, when some one says "ground zero" it sounds like the proposed community center is on the WTC site itself.

Had I shared your experience on that day, I have no doubt I'd feel as you do.

Pentagon Cold War Legend to be Torn Down

The hot dog stand in the Pentagon's center courtyard, which has long been a source of Cold War speculation, folklore and legend, will be torn down in the coming months. During the Cold War, the Soviets reportedly thought the hot dog stand led to a secret underground bunker. (DOD photo/Steven Donald Smith)

Here is some more trivia that I recall from my Pentagon days. Maybe from the Pentagon tours that they used to give... Before my time that snack shop was swarming with pigeons and their pigeon crap. They used to have some sort of pneumatic device that sounded like a shot gun that used to be in place to scare off the pigeons every 20 minutes or whatever.

Then someone with smarts advised them to have that metal owl installed on top of the snack shop and it did the trick - a $30 solution to a million dollar problem.

You are correct. We gave up trying to adopt aggressive anti squirrel protocols in tree villages at forestry actions in the forest.

We just took the posture that we were dealing with critters doing what they do to survive in their own home.

As for your owl, how does trying to scare birds with a nocturnal preditor they seldom see because they are out at night make sense?

I could understand a plastic hawk, but not an owl. Think about it.

I have relatively squirrel proof bird feeders and, when that fails, I put safflower seeds in...they can't stand them...I now use red pepper suet exclusively...

But, I have a freind who, as part of his business, has a food warehouse...I get all of his expired peanuts and walnuts...I put them away from the feeders and the squirrels cooperate...
