The reign of the Tea Party may be coming to an end in Washington, according to academic political experts who say polls show a backlash against the conservative movement. Two national polls released this month by CNN and The New York Times in conjunction with CBS News showed the Tea Party’s unfavorable rating at an all-time high. Political scientists say the data shows a backlash of independent voters against conservative lawmakers who have taken a hard line against bipartisan compromise in Washington. These experts say independent voters who make up the swing bloc of the electorate typically pay less attention to politics than staunch Republican and Democratic voters. The contentious debate in Congress over the debt limit gave the Tea Party new prominence to many of these casual observers of Washington. And many independents were not happy with what they saw over the last several weeks: a contentious debate in which conservatives threatened to force a national default; the failure of President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to reach a grand bargain to reduce the deficit; a sharp rebuke of the political system by Standard & Poor’s causing havoc on Wall Street. They note Obama’s public approval also dipped but observe public opinion of the Tea Party has fallen faster. The CNN poll showed the Tea Party’s favorable/unfavorable rating grew from 37 percent in October of 2010 to 51 percent in August 2011.

The Tea Party is getting hit from both liberal wings of the D&R party. The neo- con libtards want to redefine it as elite Republican, and the neo-lib teabaggers want to destroy it with ridicule. To survive the TP needs to throw both parties under the bus, and become a conservative and pro-American political party, IMO. America is in desperate need of non liberal, second political party

It won't work unless you get rid of single member, winner take all Congressional districts or implement an instant runoff voting system. Instant runoff voting: If we had this, third parties would flourish.
It's going to take one major Republican to speak out against the damage the Tea Party is doing to the GOP and the US. Romney will likely be forced to distance himself, but it's not going to help. If perhaps Perry schools the party on the idiocy of arguing against raising the debt ceiling, perhaps people would listen.

to survive the Tea Party needs to go back to promoting fiscal sanity instead of fiscal lunacy. It's fiscal sanity to argue for reducing the deficit and reigning in spending. It's fiscal lunacy to turn down $4 trillion in deficit reduction because of a zero-tolerance policy toward tax increases while arguing that a failure to raise the debt ceiling wouldn't be a bad thing.

Lol, WTH are you trying to say? Fugetaboutit. We are NOT raising the debt ceiling just so fedgov drones cash in and cash out. It wouldn't be a "bad thing"; It'd be disaster-on-top-of-disaster. The hemorrhaging must stop soon rather than later - and it's already MUCH later. We are NOT raising the debt ceiling again or in perpetuity just so US taxpayers and wealth-producing private sector can cover the asses of corrupt DC thieves and whores of lobbyists. THIS is lunacy. We are NOT raising the debt ceiling just so military contractor stocks can resume upward. We are NOT raising the debt ceiling just so military spending can continue to escalate and wars fought over bullsh*t. Very true, the primary and election systems need reform. The game is rigged to keep the two wings of the D&R party in power. It's damn near impossible to get on the ballot in CA, and I'm sure most other places.
