A couple of things:
Like him or not, this is the best speech any 2012 GOP candidate as delivered to date. First, he hammers Obama with Obama's own words and deeds. Second, the speech was very focused on the economy and jobs. Third, the speech was very upbeat about America's potential. It was Reaganesque. People will respond to this.
A big difference between Perry and Bush is that Perry wasn't born with a silver foot in his mouth. He was the son of a tenant farmer (someone who farms property owned by others). I really dislike privileged people in public office, whether its the Bush's, Kennedy's or anyone else.
