Harrowup is full of s**t. The IPA in question was explicitly expressed in dot-decimal notation and is an IPv4 address whose highest octet value is limited to 255.

The IPA 95.154.230.291 is in classic IPv4 dot-decimal notation. It cannot be an IPv6 number.

IPv4 utilizes 4 octets. IPv6, a newer system, uses 8 octets. It is not expressed in dot-decimal but in hexadecimal. IPv6 has an extra 4 octets, but any eight bits in memory cannot store more than 0-255. In hexadecimal, the numbers are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F representing 0 to 15.

The example IPv6 format address at the Wikipedia link is

2001:0DB8:AC10:FE01:0000:0000:0000:0000

Omitting the 4 zero groups, it can be expressed as:

2001:0DB8:AC10:FE01::

Most incompetents, with Harrowup being a notable exception, can recognize 95.154.230.291 as an invalid IPv4 expression, containing an impossible octet value of 291. It is impossible to store the value 291 in 8 bits binary.

As one may observe, An IPv6 IPA is expressed in hexadecimal 4-digit numbers. It does not resemble IPv4. The three-digit dot-decimal expression of IPv4 is, indeed, limited to 255 in each of its octets. This is a mathematical limitation of what a computer can store in 8 bits.

Computer memory is an ON/OFF condition. It always represents one of two states, a BINARY condition. Each bit represents 0 or 1. A byte of data, 8 bits, can store 28, or 256 combinations. Starting with Zero, the highest number possible is 255.

It is not possible to become a proficient hacker without a basic knowledge of binary, octal and hex. The Yukons™ do not know the difference between an ISP and an IPA. The do not understand binary and hex. They have not a clue why 8 bits cannot represent more than 28 or 255. And, obviously, they do not know that IPv6 is not represented in dot-decimal. They are bulls**ting while waiting for publication of Hacking for Idiots.

Every machine on the Internet has a unique identifying number, called an IP Address. The IP stands for Internet Protocol, which is the language that computers use to communicate over the Internet. A protocol is the pre-defined way that someone who wants to use a service talks with that service. The "someone" could be a person, but more often it is a computer program like a Web browser.

A typical IP address looks like this:

To make it easier for us humans to remember, IP addresses are normally expressed in decimal format as a dotted decimal number like the one above. But computers communicate in binary form. Look at the same IP address in binary:

The four numbers in an IP address are called octets, because they each have eight positions when viewed in binary form. If you add all the positions together, you get 32, which is why IP addresses are considered 32-bit numbers. Since each of the eight positions can have two different states (1 or zero), the total number of possible combinations per octet is 28 or 256. So each octet can contain any value between zero and 255. Combine the four octets and you get 232 or a possible 4,294,967,296 unique values!

Out of the almost 4.3 billion possible combinations, certain values are restricted from use as typical IP addresses. For example, the IP address 0.0.0.0 is reserved for the default network and the address 255.255.255.255 is used for broadcasts.

The octets serve a purpose other than simply separating the numbers. They are used to create classes of IP addresses that can be assigned to a particular business, government or other entity based on size and need. The octets are split into two sections: Net and Host. The Net section always contains the first octet. It is used to identify the network that a computer belongs to. Host (sometimes referred to as Node) identifies the actual computer on the network. 95.154.230.291 is invalid. The last octet 291 is impossible. It represents 8 bits of binary memory and that can never represent a value greater than 255, except in Harrowup New Math where 111111112, the greatest possible of 8 binary digits, achieves 291. Elsewhere, 111111112 equals 255 to the base 10, or our common everyday numbering system.

Of course, the posts of witless Gatlin are a smoking gun. He claimed knowledge that the same password was used on the LP yukon account and the LF Fartsky account. Unless he was privy to the passwords as a community user of those handles, he could not know the original passwords unless yukon/Fartsky revealed them. He could not even verify his guess except via yukon/Fartsky. Unfortunately for Gatlin, on 4/1/2011 yukon had already emphatically denied that he had used the same password on the two sites. But if yukon was not the source of Gatlin's information, what was?

I took on the motley crew at CU and at TOAK, their home turf, after they handed out an invite.
