Title: Entire U.S. Stealth Fighter Fleet Grounded

In past few decades, the U.S. Air Force has spent untold billions researching and developing a family of stealth fighter jets that are supposed to be generations ahead of any dogfighters in the sky.

But after building more than 170 F-22 Raptors and a handful of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, not a single one is available for service. The Air Force currently has zero flyable stealth fighters. None.

The vaunted F-22 has been grounded with a possible faulty oxygen system since May. Production of the last few Raptors is even on hold, because the jets can’t fly from the factory.

Last week, test flights for the newer F-35 were suspended, too, because of a valve problem in the plane’s integrated power package. It’s the third time this year that JSFs have been grounded. Tests may resume as early as next week. Then again, they may not.

Yesterday, the U.S. military committed to spending another $535 million to buy 38 more Joint Strike Fighters — a family of stealth jets that are supposed to become the multipurpose, affordable workhorses of tomorrow’s fleet. Ninety percent of America’s combat aviation power is eventually supposed to come from the jets’ three variants.

But the jets have been anything but cheap. The current cost for the JSF program is $382 billion and rising for more than 2,400 aircraft. No wonder just about every major deficit reduction plan scales back the JSF effort in some way.

And, at the moment, they’re not producing any combat power, either.

Back in 2002, the plan was to have more than 90 JSFs flying by next year. As things currently stand, the Air Force and Navy might not get their variants until 2016. The Marines — who knows?

For now, every available penny in the JSF program is tied up in getting the jets back into the air and their programs on track.

“The so-called ‘fifth-generation’ fighters have certainly revolutionized U.S. air power,” Ares’ Bill Sweetman noted, “if not quite in the way anyone had in mind.”

Loonymom/ming and the rest of you socialists... you wonder what happened to the money in the Social Security "trust fund?" It was taken out, and used on stupid crap like this.

Oh, and in return for the money you paid in for decades, they left a little IOU, backed by the "full faith and credit" of the US Government...

Errr... Ummm... well, it would seem that "credit" is not quite so good now, IS it?

Your money- for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaide, has been stolen by the government, and spent.

The cash is GONE.

It no longer EXISTS.

This article demonstrates what that money bought...

With respect to SS, you can thank Ronald Reagan for diving into the funds .... to pay for star wars. And these little grounded bombers? Star Wars.

No no no. During the Reagan Administration, his principle of SS reform was contained in H.R. 4331. Beyond raising a few pennies for SS reform, that same bill authorized the use of the so-called "Social Security Trust Fund" for federal inter agency use. I quote:

"We all know that interfund borrowing is just a temporary solution to the financing difficulties ahead for social security, which are real and serious. The bill authorizes interfund borrowing until the end of 1982 the same time the new National Commission on Social Security Reform is scheduled to report its recommendations." -- Ronald Reagan, December 29, 1981

Although the Lockheed F117 Bomber (stealth fighter) was already in research, the first one was test flown in 1981. To produce the many that were imagined by the DoD required piles of money. It was produced by SS borrowing by the DoD and has ever since.

G.E. Wins 'Star Wars' Contract

By JOHN H. CUSHMAN Jr., Special to the New York Times

Published: May 13, 1988

The Defense Department, awarding one of the largest contracts yet under the Strategic Defense Initiative, today chose an industry team led by the General Electric Company to play a leading role in the development and initial deployment of defenses against ballistic missiles.

Under the $236 million contract, the companies would serve as architects for a system of interceptor missiles, sensors and communications links, many of them based on satellites, that would be deployed beginning in the late 1990's as the first phase of President Reagan's ''Star Wars'' program.

General Electric, as head of the engineering team, attains sudden prominence in the Star Wars program, where it has not been a major presence. Pentagon officials had required bidders not to be involved in any of the major hardware projects under the new team's management, to avoid potential conflicts of interest. Principal Team Members

The General Electric team, which won the competition over a team led by the General Dynamics Corporation, includes several subcontractors.

The main subcontractors are the Science Applications International Corporation, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company's Federal Systems division, the Nichols Research Corporation, the McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company and the Computer Science Corporation's Defense Systems division.

The winning companies will not build much of the hardware under this contract. But their work, described as ''systems engineering and integration,'' will influence the course of what could become the next decade's most ambitious arms project. The first phase is expected to cost $100 billion to $150 billion.

Even before the final decision on deploying the weapons can be made, some time in the mid-1990's, the Pentagon expects to spend many billions of dollars on additional research into the technologies that would be used. Job's Optional Extensions

The contract awarded today is for five years' work and includes provisions for two optional extensions of two years each.

It represents a notable step toward eventual deployment of a Star Wars defense, following a Pentagon decision last fall to begin development of the key systems envisioned for the program's first phase.

I suppose you missed my point of view in agreeing with Eric, earlier. There is no so-called "social security trust fund" it has all been stolen by these archaic US defense programs.

The mechanism for the theft or robbery of the same trust funds was initiated almost immediately by Ronald Reagan in 1981 under the colour of social security reform. Although intended as short term borrowing, the theft of government about social security has been carried on for three decades now.

And there is no way the US government can pay the money back to that silly trust fund. That is why you see America's current stealth bombers grounded, America is broke.

She may have missed it, but I did not.

It is a pithy, and elegant summary.

No matter whether it be the Tea Party, GOP, DNC, whoever... the money's gone, and we've got a bunch of military hardware (and a few full graveyards worth of dead military) to show for it.

It's a mathematical impossibility, to restore what has been stolen.

I don't know how all this is gonna' play out... but I know that the promises made to ming/loonymom, yourself, Fred Mertz, and all the other people that are at (or close to) retirement, and think Social Security's gonna' be there for them... all of those promises will be broken.

loony/ming expects that it will be "paid in full, with interest." What she receives will be paid with completely devalued notes... IF they bother to even give her anything from such a "promise."

My parents will be among those who pay the price for this failed, bloated government. I've known this for a while... and it's why I bought a house a lot bigger than my family really needs... because I know at some point, they're going to be living with us.

(((((sigh)))))

And don't forget yourself as well.

Still, when examining the US governments use of social security trust funds through the last 30 years we see why most presidential administrations have turned a "blind eye" towards one of America's largest plights: illegal immigration.

As social security trust funds were depleted for America's escapades around the world with sophisticated C4I technologies costing BILLIONS there was an interesting phenomena: America permitted illegals to swarm across the border to help shore up SS, free of charge to the US as there was little payback (if any) when considering illegal aliens were using false SS numbers to land a job.

Every little bit helps fight in some foreign war, doesn't it?

BINGO!

Shoring up SS by allowing the illegal invasion was one theory; The others are sabotage and treason.

US legislators/globalist tool purposely ignored (as you well know) a hostile illegal invasion and tacit declaration of war by Mexico. This they hoped would diluted American sovereignty, nationalism, economy, and realign a new potential demographic and voting constituency (favoring continued statism/socialism). A Balkanized America is a Dead America.

Every little bit helps fight in some foreign war, doesn't it?

While conveniently leaving America naked and a chaotic social and economic tinderbox.

America has NEVER been so weakened as right now; I mean at this instant; on a personal basis I have lost another $20,000 in equities trading as of the moment. [It increasingly appears as though I am going to adopt an idea on one of your threads concerning England's riots since I won't be eligible for even a food stamp: kick in the doors of a local McD's and make some burgers] I shall have a problem though: where shall I receive some anti-acids tablets?

Needless to say, that's distressing...

Operation: HOPE AND CHANGE is doing just that...for the Elites and the Parasite Class; Culling the American Middle Class, siphoning our wealth and "spreading the wealth"; and ultimately creating chaos, anarchy, and a future Police State called upon to "quell the disorder" and "restore order."

Establishment Republicans like Poppy and Sonny and elites of BOTH parties have been squarely in on The Fix. Pete, I pinged you because we're on the same wave-length here and you've often mentioned the same dynamics.

Don't know how the PTB's plan pans out, but it's getting real messy real quick.
